Why Did Jesus Christ Come into the World?
“THIS is a faithful saying and worthy of ALL acceptation that Christ Jesus
came into the world TO SAVE SINNERS, of whom I am chief.”
(1 Timothy 1:15)
Many talk about Christ’s second coming who have not yet understood His first coming. The popular belief is that He came into the world to make people happy, prosperous, healthy and to try to save as many as possible. Others believe that it was to save them from hell, if they will just believe that Jesus died for them and now commit to live right, be right and do right.
How different this is from the message of the Bible! Men’s testimonies aside, His purpose in coming was not our health, wealth, and happiness, but the glory of God in the salvation of sinners. The Scriptures plainly teach that the LORD Jesus Christ has, in satisfaction to His Father’s righteousness, merited salvation for His people, “He was made unto us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption.” (1 Corinthians 1:30) The LORD Jesus in coming in the flesh procured salvation for His people and now has bestowed on them, every grace in this life to know Him, glory in Him and has given us an everlasting hope in Him Who is to come. The most important Gift of all is that He procured for us remission of all our sins, justification before a Holy God and an actual reconciliation with God and FAITH to believe.
Our biggest enemy is our sin, not our poverty. It is our rebellion before a Holy God, not whether we live to a ripe old age. We are sinners by imputation of Adam’s sin to us, Romans 5:12. We can only be declared righteous by the just satisfaction of a Holy God and that ONLY by the obedience unto death of the LORD Jesus, 2 Corinthians 5:21. At that time and place God wholly charged the debt of the sin of His people to His Son, He simultaneously charged His righteousness to the Spiritual account of every one of the elect of all ages at one time [Luke 9:31; Hebrews 9:15-17]. In His death, there was a two-fold work accomplished between God the Father and God the Son. He put away forever the sin of His people when Christ died and at the same time justified them (acquitted and declared them righteous) once and for all, Hebrews 10:10-14.
The Glorious, Good News is that the LORD Jesus came and died to deliver from Spiritual and eternal death sinners such as we are. It is the LORD God, Who grants His Spirit to each of His elect, in His time and causes them to cry unto Him for Mercy in Truth and rejoice in HIS appointed salvation that His Son fully accomplished for them! [Galatians 1:15-16]
