The fact that God is faithful means that he can be trusted. Mankind can trust God all the way from birth to the hearse. We can trust God in life and in death. In one sense, we are all born trusting in God's provisions. Birth itself is a miracle from God. None of us would be here if it was not because of God's faithfulness. He established the earth; he created us in his image; he sustains life to the smallest degree. We all breathe God's air from that first breath that we take, and God is faithful to provide that air for us.
Jeremiah was told something about the faithfulness of God even before he was born. The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations” (Jer. 1:5). This verse tells us that God had a plan for the prophet before he was born. In the same way, God has a unique plan for each one of us that he has designed before we were born.
The psalmist declared, “I will praise thee: for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well” (Psa. 139:14). The previous verse says, “thou hast covered me in my mother's womb,” so, again, God has a plan for us before birth.
Put that thought together with the claim that “all things work together for good ...” (Rom. 8:28) and we understand that God is working all things together in order to fulfill his plan for us. That is God's faithfulness in our birth. (LEH)
