"But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says: “Let all the angels of God worship Him.” And of the angels He says: “Who makes His angels spirits and His ministers a flame of fire.” Hebrews 1:6-7

The sovereign Lord of the universe created angels to do many things, according to His will and good pleasure. Psalms 91 and 103 teach us this. The psalmist says in Psalm 91:11-12 "For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone."David proclaims in Psalm 103:20-21 "Bless the Lord, you His angels, who excel in strength, who do His word, heeding the voice of His word. Bless the Lord, all you His hosts, you ministers of His, who do His pleasure."

As we see in Hebrews 1:6 and Psalm 103, the declared will and good pleasure of God is that one of their heavenly duties is to worship Him, bless Him, and praise His name. This is the angels consistent practice in Scripture. Angels are part of the heavenly choir. In fact, God refers to their singing in His rebuke of Job in Job 38:4-7, when He said, "Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?" Such a beautiful testimony of angels worshiping and praising their Maker considering His work of creating the earth!

In Isaiah 6:1-3, we have Isaiah's vision into the heavenly temple- "In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!”"What did Isaiah see? Marvelously, he saw the majesty of the Lord in His splendor of exaltation. In addition, he saw seraphim, he saw angels celebrating the transcendent majesty of the Creator by singing of His splendor. Here, we see the holiness of God exalted by the angels. Notice also the description of the seraphim. God created them with six wings. He made them this way as they would be in His immediate presence. Two to cover their faces, two to cover their feet, two to fly which is significant. When angels are in the presence of the transcendent holiness of God, they must shield their eyes from His glory. Scripture teaches us that the glory of God is so bright and blinding to creatures (Exodus 33:18-23). Therefore, the angels also shield their eyes from seeing the glory of God as they worship Him every day.

Remember what happened after the angel appeared to the shepherds and proclaimed the birth of Christ in Luke 2. The curtain of heaven was rolled back, so to speak, and a multitude of the heavenly host, or the heavenly armies, were revealed to the shepherds sight. What were they doing? Worshiping and giving glory to God! They were praising His holy name, declaring His will towards men. "And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” - Luke 2:13-14

One final glorious passage showing us the angel's worship of God, that I'll point you to today, is found in Revelation 7:11-12 as we get a glimpse of John's view of worship in the throne room of God- "All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying: “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen.”See how even the angels, along with the elder and four living creatures, all fall prostrate on their faces in worship as they are before God on His throne.

Beloved, how good it is to consider and study the duties of the angels, and be blessed to see them worshiping God round the clock in His presence! We talk often of how our corporate worship together each Lord's Day is but a foretaste of that which we'll experience for all eternity. We too will give unending worship and have face to face communion with the Lord Most High forever. Such a glorious promise that will be our glorious reality! Praise the Lord! Praise God for His Word!
