The Chain that Cannot be Broken
“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life,
nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present,
nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature,
shall be able to separate us from the love of God,
which is in Christ Jesus our LORD.”
(Romans 8:38-39)
Many years ago, I was sitting in my vehicle on a rain-soaked, muddy, washed-out road in Africa with a huge 20-ton truck stuck in the mud ahead of me. There was no other way home until someone came along with a chain heavy enough to pull out the truck and once again open the way for the rest of us to get through. Ropes, vines and smaller chains snapped until finally a logging chain was produced and used to drag huge timber out of the forest. A chain big enough to meet the challenge of the weight of the truck and its sunken condition was what successfully opened the way for the rest of us to go home!
What a comfort to know that the Scriptures declare a sure chain of Grace that reaches all the way from the throne of God's Grace to sinners whom He has purposed to save. Sinners need not question, considering the weight of their own sin and miserably lost estate, whether this chain will hold and get the job done. It is the unbreakable chain of the Love of God, irrevocably linked to the Lamb of God slain, that assures Life with God.
Do you wonder how a Holy and Just God can save sinners? It is entirely the work between the Father and the Son that the work has been done. Have you ever considered how guilty, wretched sinners could ever hope to stand in the presence of a Holy God, knowing the infinite weight of their sin before Him? It is only in God setting His Everlasting Love upon them first in His Son. However, that Love is not at the expense of His justice. It is because He loves His righteousness and cannot receive anything less than absolute holiness into His presence that He did not spare His Son but delivered Him up to death, that He might be a Just God and Savior. The Election is unto salvation accomplished in the coming, doing and dying of the LORD Jesus [Ephesians 1:3-7] so that God the Father might declare righteous before Him every sinner for whom He appointed the LORD Jesus as their Advocate, 1 John 2:1.
Where is the Love of God? It is in Christ Jesus, the Lamb slain of God! Where is the Hope of Eternal [Endless] Life? It is in the Love of God, which is in Christ Jesus, the Crucified Lamb of God!
What a Sure Anchor of the soul that the chosen, redeemed and called sinner has in Him!
