What Do You Think of God’s Son?
In a very short time for some of us, not very long for any of us, and it could be today for all of us! We are going to be called to stand before our great Creator, Sustainer, Benefactor, and holy Judge, the God of the Bible. I assure you that in that solemn hour those things which men and women hold dearest to their hearts will be of no importance to them whatsoever! In that solemn hour of judgment it will not matter whether one has black or white skin, whether one is educated or uneducated, whether one is a king or a slave, rich or poor. Whether one is accepted or rejected of God, whether one spends eternity in heaven or hell, THAT will be the only thing that matters in that dreadful hour; and THAT hinges upon one thing and one thing only – WHAT ONE THINKS OF GOD’S SON, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST! What do you think of the Lord Jesus Christ? What is HE to YOU? What is HE to YOU, right now? Unless the Lord Jesus is everything to you now, He will be nothing to you in that day. Unless He, to you, is a sovereign, sufficient, suitable, successful, satisfied Savior, then you have missed Him! You have no Savior! Modern religion’s would-be, trying-to-be, hope-to-be savior is no savior at all! He is merely a figment of carnal man’s sinful imagination! They have created a little pigmy Jesus who is subject to their supposed free wills, so they can glory in what they LET him do for them.
True believers joyfully and thankfully acknowledge and publicly confess that “Salvation is of the Lord.” They love the truth of the following verse: “But OF GOD are ye in Christ Jesus, who OF GOD is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption; that, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the LORD” (I Corinthians 1:30, 31). The apostle Paul said of believers, “We are the circumcision which worship God in the Spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh” (Philippians 3:3). Believers say, “God quickened me, called me, converted me, and keeps me by His almighty grace. All of my faith, trust, confidence and hope is OF HIM, and IN HIM!” My “Salvation,” first to last, “is of the Lord.” -- Maurice Montgomery
On Getting Older
Let us correct our attitude toward getting older. Believers must not allow the carnal thinking of this world to form our opinions and attitudes. The reason so much emphasis is placed on youth, physical strength and beauty, riches and possessions is because this is all that the worldling has and when these are gone—all is gone! Actually age, while it mars outward beauty, should bring us real lasting beauty—which is inward grace, mercy and peace. Age will decrease our physical strength but should increase our spiritual strength. We grow in faith, love and patience. Age may make our arms weak and trembling, but it should establish us more firmly on the everlasting Arm. Age may make the present less sure but it gives us assurance of the certainty of the future. I’ll always be young in Christ! My steps may be slower but I walk with the King. My eyes may be dimmer but as I see less of the world I see more of my Lord. My ears may be dull but I hear His Voice more clearly. My body may be weak but I am stronger in faith. I may not know the latest story but I know the old, old story a little better. I may not be surrounded by as many human admirers but I am surrounded by a heavenly host which waits to take me home. –Henry Mahan
The Bringing of God’s Sons & Daughters
O the amazing power and providence of our Lord in bringing His people to Himself; bringing them to hear His voice (the gospel), and follow Him all their days. He will bring an Abram from Ur to Canaan . . . a Ruth from Moab to Bethlehem . . . a Lydia from Thyatira to Philippi . . . yea every one of His elect are ‘afar off . . . without God, without Christ’ . . . all must and will hear His voice and be brought into the fold. Listen to the sovereign promise: “Fear not (Jacob): for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west; I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; Even every one that is called by my Name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him. Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears. Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled. . .” (Isa.43:5-9) And in another place, “That in the dispensation of the fulness of times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in Heaven, and which are on earth; even in Him . . . That in the ages to come He might shew the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.” (Eph.1:10, 2:7)
