Assurance and Faith
“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience,
and our bodies washed with pure water.”
(Hebrews 10:22)
Do you struggle with the question of assurance of salvation? If so, you are not alone. Most of those that God the Father has chosen, the Son has redeemed and the Spirit regenerated, will at some time or another intheir experience question whether they are the LORD’s or not. If you are not the LORD’s yet, by Grace, through Faith, it is not assurance that you need but the revelation of Christ Himself. However, if by God’s eternal purpose and grace in Christ, He has made Christ to be your wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption (1 Corinthians 1:30) it may be that you experience moments when you don’t ‘feel saved.’ Here is some Biblical instruction for your encouragement.
1.) Salvation is not based on how we feel but rather on the work of the Savior: Don’t fall into the trap of looking for assurance in a feeling or a work of your own. Assurance of Faith is founded upon the LORD Jesus Christ as the Faithful High Priest of God Who is over the house of God, His people, Hebrews 10:21. Salvation, redemption, justification, sanctification and glorification are of Him, by Him, through Him and to Him. These are all links in the golden chain of salvation described in Romans 8:29-30. There is no weak link in any part of this chain because it is of God and immutably tied to the very throne of grace upon which the LORD Jesus Christ is seated and interceding, His work completed as the Representative of His people, Hebrews 4:15-16. The hope and assurance of the believer are what God the Father purposed before the foundation of the world and the LORD Jesus most certainly accomplished by coming in the flesh and dying on the cross. It would be easier for the LORD Jesus Christ to cease being the Son of God than for Him to lose one of those that He has redeemed and adopted as sons of God, John 6:37.
2.) There is no assurance in looking inward, only to the Savior: The command given to the snake-bitten children of Israel of old was not to look to their wounds but to the brazen serpent, as a type of the LORD Jesus Christ crucified, Numbers 21:9 with John 3:14.
3.) There is nothing Spiritual about reveling in doubt and unbelief: The command is clearly to draw near in FULL assurance of Faith, having your heart sprinkled with the blood of Christ and body sanctified through the work of His Spirit. That is all the true believer NEEDS. That is all the true believer WANTS.
