"ALL PEOPLES" - Psalm 117

"Praise the LORD, all nations! Extol him, all peoples!" vs1

All peoples are to praise the Lord. No one is left out. He died for all nations, and has a people from every language. Revelation 5:9, They sing a new song: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slaughtered and by your blood you ransomed for God saints from every tribe and language and people and nation;" Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Therefore, let us preach the gospel to all. Let's not be bound by man's sinfulness. Be bound by God’s love, and know his power to save the chief of sinners. He doesn’t need man’s approval to make him willing in the day of God’s power. Psalm 110:3, “Your people will volunteer on your day of battle. In holy splendor, from the womb of the dawn, the dew of your youth belongs to you.” God converts the seemingly unconvertable. The Apostle Paul is a chief example of this salvation. 1 Timothy 1:15, “This saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance: ‘Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners’ — and I am the worst of them.” Christ saves people that we're scared to preach to.

Let this encourage us to preach the gospel, pray, and keep pushing. The gospel must go to others.

Secondly, we have a reason to praise: God's steadfast love - the fact that he keeps covenant. Psalm 117:2 ESV — "For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD!"

God's love is an unchanging constant that must be celebrated. It saves us from hell, and makes atonement. This is not the general love towards Judas, and those who perish. This is God's particular saving love to his people. Isaiah 43:4, “Because you are precious in my sight and honored, and I love you, I will give people in exchange for you and nations instead of your life.” This love is guaranteed, saving, and eternal. It delivers and does everything, even giving us faith and good works. Ephesians 2:8, “For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift.” This love appeases guilt, brings us the fellowship of true believers, and delivers from sin’s power. It puts us in a new family, and causes us to live for Christ, love what we hated, and enjoy the gospel. God’s saving love brings to heaven. 1 John 4:10, “Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.” God gave up his own Son to bless us.

Proclaim this love boldly and gently. Don't shy away from teaching God’s election - having mercy upon whom he will - and particular grace. Preach with humility, because God's love, not us, does everything. He's the reason we are saved, sanctified, and overcoming. He helps us in our falls, like Peter, because he prays for us, and turns us. Luke 22:32 — “But I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And you, when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” God's love is our focus, not our good deeds. Good works flow, as we look to Christ, continually believe on Him, and see God’s goodness to the otherwise helpless, unworthy, and ignorant.

Thirdly, “Praise the Lord [vs2].” Don't sit on your hands. Give him praise by living to save others. 1 Corinthians 9:19, “Although I am free from all and not anyone’s slave, I have made myself a slave to everyone, in order to win more people.” Praise Christ in your speech and deeds. Praise him by giving. Whatever gifts you have, use them for his church. 1 Corinthians 12:7, “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all.” Don't only attend church, but contribute. Be an active member of the body of Christ, praying for usefulness, and humility.

Don't glory in your greatness, child of God, lest you also be tempted. Galatians 6:1, “Brothers and sisters, if someone is overtaken in any wrongdoing, you who are spiritual, restore such a person with a gentle spirit, watching out for yourselves so that you also won’t be tempted.” Put away the, "I'm better than others." Replace it with, "God's been gracious to me, and he’ll be gracious to you also. Only believe."

Saints, don’t keep quiet. Pay your vows. Psalms 116:18, “I will pay my vows to the Lord now in the presence of all his people.” Remember what he's done for you. See his hand upholding you, currently.

Finally, our life must be filled with praise to be filled with happiness, joy, and contentment. This is the fruit of doing God's will, which is praising him by faith in Christ.
