"But their meat belongs to you. It belongs to you like the breast of the presentation offering and the right thigh."
There's a reward for serving God. We've been given the priesthood by grace, and he meets our need. Don't rely on the world for entertainment. Loving each other satisfies us. He gives the fruit of joy and peace. He gives soul satisfaction. Deception says, "I'll serve myself, and make myself happy." Wisdom says, "I'll serve the Lord."
First, "their meat belongs to you." God knows to care for his people. We don't have to cry out in leanness. We are well fed. He gives us joy in his will, as we grow in love. He makes us rejoice by the Spirit. John 15:11, "I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.” He is a Master of joy. He is no ogre, as the Devil pretends. He’s the source of pure joy and holy pleasure that satisfies. He’s not a boring taskmaster! He’s a generous giver by the Spirit.
Don’t let Satan deceive you! He who gives us heaven has joy now in his service, as we do his will. 1 Timothy 4:8, "for, while physical training is of some value, godliness is valuable in every way, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come." His promises are good, and his comfort isn’t lacking. Ask anyone who serves by the Spirit, and they’ll confirm it. Overcome the temptation to seek vain pleasure. Find your all in Christ: it is there!
Secondly, "it belongs to you like the breast of the presentation offering." Christ’s love fills us, and gives us true hope. He brings us to the Father’s riches of grace, delighting us with promises of eternal inheritance. Forgiveness is enjoyed, and there is peace - the GREATEST PEACE imaginable - peace between God and man! We are reconciled, and all is forgiven. In trials, he’s with us to improve our character and strengthen our hope. He is always doing us good, and love covers his every thought and action, concerning us his dear children. We experience full acceptance by the Omnipotent God, and our souls can rest. We leave our cares with him.
Time and eternity belong to us. We are highly favored!
Thirdly, “the right thigh." Christ’s work for us enables us to work for him, and we find peace, assurance, and usefulness. We see what he did enables us to be like him in sincere love for others. John 15:12, “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” Thus, living selflessly, the Spirit ministers greater comfort than all entertainment, so we can enjoy our wine in season, and not feast for drunkenness. Ecclesiastes 10:17, "Blessed are you, O land, when your king is the son of nobles, And your princes feast at the proper time—For strength and not for drunkenness!" God’s grace puts away sin, subdues sin, and enables us to live a wonderful life of loving God by loving our neighbor! He makes us truly human in the likeness of Christ, rather than deformed!
The wonders of obedience by the Spirit can only be felt by those who serve - who see Christ’s work so clearly, and his will so brightly, that we rejoice in obedience. This is every child of God’s portion. You have not been left out of the joy that's in Christ. Then, we can enjoy family, friends, and fun. In Christ, we find all.
Finally, dear saints, don’t feel that the world has passed you by. God’s given us something better: himself, and his work!
