If you look at this topic at first glance you would think we were getting ourselves in the political life topic that is often discussed. But we do so only in the light of what the Word of God says concerning putting emphasis on it not only, but going far beyond the horizontal as God has established His covenant among us. We lift our children into the spiritual. This is a transitive part of scripture. The people are standing on the threshold of entering Heaven in the typical where we stand each and every day even now! When we love Him with all our heart and soul we will experience an existence in Heaven like no other!
Choice: God sets two alternatives before Israel. Life and death...blessing and cursing. Life is important but we cannot stop there. There are spiritual matters of blessing and cursing. The dimension of God's covenant among us...those whom God has put His very stamp on! We must look at the repercussions of this in our lives and the way you and I live will show itself in and have repercussions in our children and our children's children! Life in Israel was life with God (Ark) and that is what separated them from the other nations. "I am the resurrection and life and he that believes in me LIVES!" Life is having fellowship with our Lord Jesus Christ! This is life..."He that believes in ME!" And "to live apart from God is DEATH!" The Lord has chosen to dwell here with us and we are the partakers of life and heavenly glory! Scripture speaks of the warnings before God's people enter into heaven and He also gives them to us! When Israel served other gods the Philistines over ran them and the Babylonian captivity came and so are the repercussions SPIRITUALLY! The Lord has given it to us that we may heed His commandments. The concern of our kids lives are VERY important to us...BUT their SPIRITUAL life trumps it! Eternal life is not "up for grabs" but this is the demand of God to His covenant children. Choose LIFE! And this happens every moment of our life with every desire of our heart. "You walk in MY ways and it will be well with you...you walk against me and it will not go well." Every day we must say yes to God and no to our flesh and the world.
Consequences: The consequences are TREMENDOUS! The focus is on His church. All we have to do to see how we are living is to ask one of our children. "What is the most important thing to your mom and dad?" Is it something horizontal? Or can our children witness that we speak of the ETERNAL as it reflects in our daily living and in our daily entertainment so that one day they put an epitask to the fact that we lived our lives in the ways of the Lord and for the Kingdom?! Though we cannot change the heart, it belongs to you and me to see that our children are brought up in the fear of the Lord with our homes acting as neo-natal units for their nurturing so we can say "as for me and my house we will serve the Lord!"
