"She said to him, “Give me a blessing. Since you have set me in the land of the Negeb, give me also springs of water.” And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs." vs14-15
God gives us whatever we want. If we ask anything in his name, then he hears us, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John 14:14- “If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it."
He'll give us good behavior and peace. He'll give us the benefits of trusting Christ. We don't have to think that he'll hold out on us. Romans 8:32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?"
Salvation is free, and it's given because of Christ. He finished the work that enables God to be just and to justify, so he can bless us! In righteousness, our Father is generous, gracious, and kind.
He'll give us victory over sin, and power to serve him purely. He'll give us his Spirit. He'll even give us souls for our labor. Stephen prayed, "Lord, do not charge them with this sin," and he forgave Paul and made him an Apostle.
Let us go in prayer boldly, humbly, and confidently. Pray to God.
First, "She said to him, 'Give me a blessing.'" She came for a gift, not something she deserved. Come boldly for grace. It can't be earned by prayer and fasting. He gives by faith. Trust God's grace and the finished work of Christ. Trust his generosity to the sinner, whom he declares righteous. Trust the merit of Christ's work.
Don't be afraid to ask! Sin has not barred you! It's grace in your time of need, and mercy in your misery.
Secondly, "give me also springs of water." You might think you have enough, but get more grace. Get grace to preach and bear fruit. Get righteous and holiness. Get peace and joy. God will show us the way.
If you want happiness, then be holy. If you want help preaching, then be humble and selfless. Do you want cleansing? Bring your filthy heart. Don't say, "I've asked for a part, but I will do the remaining." No, get grace for all. If you have children, get grace to point them to Christ. Do you pastor, get grace for your church.
Wrestle with God MORE AND MORE. Everything comes down through prayer, and he wants to be asked for our every need. He doesn't want us independent, thinking he's stingy. He doesn't want us in self strength. God helps the poor and needy. The proud he knows from a distance [Ps 138:6]. If we ask, we'll receive. 1 John 5:15, “And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him." Matthew 7:11, “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!"
Thirdly, "And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs." He's more gracious than we can ask or think. He's more willing and generous than imaginable. The gospel glorifies God! Ephesians 3:20-21 -
“Now to Him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us— to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever.”
He gave up his Son to give to us freely. He blesses us with God inside our hearts. We become his children and his well beloved bride through the grace of Christ. He'll withhold no good thing! He’ll make us more holy in conduct and more sincere. He’ll make us selfless servants, as we come to him in prayer. Generosity will replace jealousness, and the flesh will be subdued in its pride. God is able to do marvelously with the weak and the helpless. He delights in helping the unworthy. Ask, and you will receive.
Finally, grace and prayer go together, linked by Christ and faith. Come to him, and get what you desire!
