The Wonders Of The True God

Job 9:5 Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.
6 Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.
7 Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.
8 Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.
9 Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.
10 Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.

Job continued to speak of the greatness of the true God. There is no god like the true God. Satan cannot compete with God. He thinks he can, but he is a liar. Job understood more about the true God than his three friends did.
God can move mountains. The Bible tells us that He tipped the mountains on their side during the flood of Noah’s days. It is interesting to drive through the mountains of B.C. and see some of the mountains that have been tipped on their side. The grain in the rocks runs vertical and in some cases in a curved manner. God can do things that no one else can do. He made the mountains, so it should not be difficult to believe that He can change their position if he wants to. We know that God was angry with mankind prior to the flood. He did not create man to destroy him. He created man to glorify Him. The majority of people chose to reject God and not only reject Him, but act in open defiance against Him. He warned mankind that it is never wise to defy the true and living God.
There are many over the years that have defied God. Some of them have lived to grow old, but all but a few of them have died and are in torment today. A few of them repented toward God and trusted in His way of forgiveness and were spared His wrath and received His love and saving mercy instead.
God is still merciful today. He is still shaking the earth today as He so chooses. We read of earthquakes and tremors in different places. Secular scientists have their excuses for what is happening. Lately they have tried to blame fracking for causing earthquakes. Fracking is a system where man drops a charge down deep into the ground to crack rocks so that oil and gas companies can access the fuels that are hidden in the rocks.
Job understood that God has the power to shake the earth. The pillars of the earth tremble at God’s command. We understand that there are certain laws that God has put in place that give stability to the earth. Man states that the earth rotates around its axis at a rate of 1,600 km (1,000 miles) per hour. You and I do not feel this. We know that the earth revolves around the sun as well. The movement of the earth gives us our seasons and lengthens or shortens the days, depending on where you live on the earth.
Job did not need to go to university to know that God can make changes as He chooses. In fact, had Job gone to university he would never have learned what he knew about God’s greatness. Wise people get their information from the Word of God.
In verse 7 Job understood that there is a time for the sun to rise and and time for the stars to show themselves. They are kept in the sky by God. They are not there by an “accident” of evolution. Evolution is a lie that is designed to keep man from knowing the true God. Sadly, too many people choose to believe that lie. Too many professing Christians are willing to accept the lie of “theistic evolution”. Theistic evolution suggests that God started the “ball rolling”. He was the first cause and then He allowed things to “evolve” to where we are today. Genesis 1 puts that lie to rest. Other passages help build on the truth of Genesis 1.
God spread out the heavens. Job took some time here to exalt the true God. This exercise helped take his mind off his sufferings. It gave him the opportunity to praise and glorify the true God.
Job is reminding us all that God owns Creation. He does with His creation as He chooses. He does not need our permission. He demonstrates His power and authority by doing unique things with His handiwork.
In verse 9, the constellations are the work of His hands. He put the stars in their various patterns. God put them there for man to notice and to recognize His greatness. God is a great artist! Arcturus is one of the stars in the big dipper. Orion is one of the clearest constellations in the northern skies. Pleiades is the constellation of seven stars. God put these formations there. Job knew about them. He was a wise man. He studied different aspects of God’s creation. He did not try to explain away God’s work. He exalted God’s Work. It is awe inspiring to look into the skies and to take note of the fact that God made that all and the stars hang there night after night and amaze us with their presence and their order.
In verse 10 Job noted again that God does things that are past finding out. We have massive telescopes that we sent into space to try to discover the origins of it all. There is nothing wrong with searching into the heavens. It is wrong and a waste of time to assume that man will discover how it all began by looking into the heavens. The only way that would be beneficial is if man would listen to the words of the Psalmist in Psalm 19:1-8:

Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

Job knew the heavens revealed the greatness of God. God is always good and in Job’s case, He gave him some reprieve from the false teachings of his friends. He gave him the opportunity to reflect on the truth. Job did not have a Bible to read. He did not have commentaries to consult. He had a personal relationship with God that he had developed over the past years. That relationship would help him to weather this storm he was in. He did not always do things well, but I dare say that we do not always do things well either, and we have a Bible and we can study that and we can be part of a good church where we can be helped to grow in the Lord.
Let us take advantage of the blessings that God gives us and look to Him today to teach us what we need to learn. Storms are all around us. They can come up very suddenly. They are never a surprise to God, but they could be to us. If we walk by faith we will be able to weather them and be an encouragement to others as well.
