Job 2:1 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD. 2 And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. 3 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause. 4 And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life. 5 But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face. 6 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life. 7 So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown. 8 And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes. 9 Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die. 10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.
In chapter 2 Satan continued to work as the accuser of the brethren. He continued to mock God and to despise Job. He thought he knew Job better than God did. Satan is a very arrogant fallen angel. He has to be extremely arrogant to be Satan. It is no wonder that his followers are also arrogant. He assumes he can win against God. He is a fool. Many are caught up in his lies. There is no need for anyone to be in his trap, but those who reject God’s Word cannot be set free on their own. We see in verse 1 that the sons of God came again to present themselves before the LORD. Satan was there again as well. We are reminded that the devil does not have free rein. He cannot do as he pleases. It is foolish to question God’s purposes. We accept them from the all wise God and know that one day those who are saved will understand what God was doing and why. As we follow the book of Job, God revealed more of His plan and His authority over man. In verse 2 we see that Satan needed to answer the LORD regarding his activities. The LORD knew all about it, but He wanted to hear what the devil had to say. Keep in mind that the devil is a liar. He cannot be trusted. The devil made it sound as if he was just travelling around looking things over. It reminds me of the many people who travel all over the place for no real purpose. We have heard of massive delays at airports over the past several months. People are so accustomed to travelling all over that they cannot stand to be unable to do so. Mr. Trudeau was very successful in coercing large numbers of people to get the poison shots because he threatened them with a travel ban if they did not get them. Many people are already suffering from this foolishness and many more will discover the damage they have done to their bodies. Meanwhile, the devil is laughing. He has found an easy pawn and he has been able to convince many that travel is a must. In verse 3 the LORD again raised the matter of Job. God does not hide His faithful servants. He wants others to see them and to observe His work in the hearts and lives of His servants. Even the devil needs to see the power of God. He will never accept It, but he needs to be reminded of It, nevertheless. The LORD again reminded Satan that Job was unusual in his time. This is true because God said so. It is also sad that others were not interested in walking with integrity in the fear of the LORD. It is important to be one who is willing to walk in the fear of the LORD. Don’t be one who wants to be like everyone else. The crowd is going the wrong way. The LORD reminded Satan that even though he had attacked Job’s family and his earthly possessions, Job had not flinched. Job was not weakened spiritually by Satan’s attacks. Notice as well that the LORD stated that the devil was attacking Job without cause. Satan had no just reason to go after Job. It is simply his nature to attack the upright. Those who know the LORD today and seek to walk uprightly need to understand that the devil will try to attack in any way he can.
I Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Job did not entertain the devil. The devil came after him. Job worshipped God even though the devil was seeking to destroy him. Job would not allow bitterness to enter his mind and heart. In our text, Satan changed his attack against God and Job. He again accused God of unjustly protecting Job. Satan thought that every person should be left defenceless so that he could play with them at his will. That is how the devil thinks. We see that our social system of today is using this same lie to attack the family. Schools have been brainwashing children for many years now. They limit the parents’ access to what is going on in the schools. Parent/teacher meetings are a facade. The things that I faced as a student in school were not revealed to my parents by the teachers. There were things going on that my parents were not aware of and they did not want to know what I had to say about it. I needed to get an education and the schools were good, in their minds. I was not saved, but God gave me a conscience and I knew there were things being done that were wrong, even as a lost boy. This corrupt philosophy has brought us to the present day where children are coerced into believing that we as adults are destroying the planet. We are irresponsible and our children will not have a planet to live on if we do not make drastic changes. Parents that subject their children to this corrupt system are themselves blind. The social systems of our world are destroying children, and the adults who should know better are often times accepting the lies being delivered. God did not accept Satan’s lies. He is God. He knew Job was an upright man. He knew Job’s heart. He had changed his heart. He knew what He had done and He knew what He was doing. Satan lied to God and told him that a man will do anything to protect his own body and life. That is the lie our government used to get people to take the shot. They lied and scared people into believing they were going to die if they did not get the shot. They also told them they were going to kill grandma if they did not get the shot. They told people they did not care about others if they did not get the shot. Most people believed the lies and took the poison. A few did not believe the lies and the government is still trying to make those few look like we are the problem That trick comes straight from the devil. In verse 6 the LORD told Satan he could test Job further. He could attack his health, but he could not take his life. In verse 7 we see that Satan did not waste any time with his next step. He smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. This would have been extremely painful for Job. He would be unable to walk. He would not be able to sit in comfort. He would not be able to lie down. We see again the nature of the devil. Some might want to blame God for allowing this to happen to Job. God did not cause the problem here. The devil caused the problem. God is not the problem today either. The devil is the problem. God provides the only solution to the problem - His salvation. In verse 8 we see that Job looked for some way to ease the pain. He took some broken pottery to scrape the boils to find some relief. In verse 9 we see that Job’s wife was no help to him. His children were all gone. Most of his servants were gone. He had his wife who was to be the help meet for him. She proved to be anything but that. At a time when Job needed some physical and moral support, she was not there for him. In verse 10 we see that Job did not allow his circumstances to dictate who he was. He had a true faith in God. He believed that God was right and he believed that God was still a good God. We will continue to look at this tomorrow, Lord willing. Those who are saved need to know this and trust in the LORD. We have the benefit of having the Scriptures to study. We can understand some things about God that Job did not know at this time. He would learn some things. We can know these things today as well. Let us not rush ahead of God. Today is the Lord’s Day. Go to a good local church today and be prepared to listen to the preaching and teaching of God’s Word. Let Him speak to your heart through His Word. Be humble so that you can listen and receive what He has to say. Don’t come with your preconceived idea of what you should hear. Use God’s Word as your standard, not your own emotions or your own ideas. You will be blessed if you let God work in your heart. Pastor Bartel
