CALL TO WORSHIP
With harps and with vials there stands a great throng
In the presence of Jesus and sings this new song;
To Him who hath loved us and washed us from sin,
Unto Him be the glory forever! Amen.
All these once were sinners defiled in His sight,
Now arrayed in pure garments their voices unite;
To Him who hath loved us and washed us from sin,
Unto Him be the glory forever! Amen.
He maketh the rebel a priest and a king,
He hath bought us and taught us this new song to sing;
To Him who hath loved us and washed us from sin,
Unto Him be the glory forever! Amen.
How helpless and hopeless we sinners had been
If He had not loved us and washed us from sin;
To Him who hath loved us and washed us from sin,
Unto Him be the glory forever! Amen.
Aloud in His praises our voices shall ring
So that others believing this new song shall sing;
To Him who hath loved us and washed us from sin,
Unto Him be the glory forever! Amen.

“I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.” Is. 46:11.
Men speak of “God’s plan”, but in fact the word “plan” is not found in the Bible a single time. Everything that happens in time, is the fulfillment of what our great God has purposed in eternity. In the redeeming work of Christ on Calvary’s cross, God purposed the full salvation of his chosen people. In all the details of his providence, our gracious God has purposed only good for his children. Let us rest our immortal souls and our temporal lives in our sovereign and omnipotent God who always brings to pass what He has purposed.

GOD IS A GOD OF MEANS
Our God has to power to make anything happen simply by His will. However, our God is pleased to use means to accomplish His will. When we are sick, we pray that the Lord will heal us. It is possible that the Lord will miraculously heal us without any other intervention, but almost always the Lord uses means to heal people. If you are sick, see a doctor for treatment. If the Lord intends to heal you, more than likely He will use the means of medicinal treatment to do it.
Our God used means to save His elect people. The Father elected a people to save but He did not save them without means. The means the Father used to save His people was His Son. The Father sent His Son into the world to save His people from their sin by His obedience and by His bloody sacrifice.
When the Holy Spirit applies that salvation to the hearts of God’s elect in the new birth, He uses means to accomplish His will. The Holy Spirit uses the means of the preaching of God’s Word to give life and faith to God’s elect. The means of revealing Christ to the hearts of God’s people and cause them to be born again is the preaching of Christ.
I know God has the power to accomplish His will in any way He chooses, but I sure am thankful for the means He provides. The means don’t take away from God’s power and glory. Really, they accentuate it.

LIFE
... I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” – John 10:10
I can attempt to lay the guilt of the law on a dead man - but he will not feel the burden and run to Christ, unless God gives him life. I can shoot the barbed arrows of the truth of the Gospel into a dead man's chest - but he will not flinch nor shed a tear and cry out to God for mercy, unless God gives him life. I can try to comfort a dead man with the salvation accomplished by our Lord Jesus Christ - but he will not rejoice in the Savior's victory, unless God gives him life. Lord, come to us - that we may live and rest in you in abundance!
