Matthew 24:13, "But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved."
We must endure to the end. There is no way around it and no exceptions. The Lord Jesus preaches no cheap salvation. He preaches perseverance and endurance. He teaches overcoming sin.
This is the gift of God's grace. He gives us endurance and life-changing power. He makes us holy forever. Bless God for the finished work of Christ and the greatness of the Spirit. Bless him for the promises that enable us to obey.
First, "but the one who endures." There is someone that endures to the end. Most people will not. Their love grows cold. Matthew 24:12, "And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold." They are deceived by false prophets. Matthew 24:11, "And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray." The Father, however, has chosen some to overcome the deceitfulness. Some will say no to ungodliness and deny this world. Titus 2:12, "training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age." Some, like Moses, will persevere as seeing the Invisible. Some will count the costs and forsake everything. Hebrews 11:25, "choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin."
Bless God for amazing grace. Bless him for perseverance. This is his gift, because he chose to save some. For the glory of his name, he chose a people! Ephesians 1:6, "to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved."
Secondly, it's endurance to the end. "The one who endures to the end." We don't stop because of sin. We don't draw back in failure. We ADMIT OUR SINS, and take chastisement. Hebrews 12:6, "For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives." Like Peter, we have no other hope. Like the good figs, we're sent to Babylon for our good. Jeremiah 24:6, "For I will set My eyes on them for good, and I will bring them again to this land; and I will build them up and not overthrow them, and I will plant them and not pluck them up."
Even when we disregard him, he smites us to heal us. Isaiah 57:18, "I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will lead him and restore comfort to him and his mourners." We may seem dead to others but life is in us [Acts 20:10]. We repent when chastened, rather than renouncing. Others may sleep well at night, but He burdens our conscience and removes the pleasure of sin. Judges 6:6, "And Israel was brought very low because of Midian. And the people of Israel cried out for help to the LORD." He hedges us in.
He gives spiritual power, so that we love him, serve him, and rejoice in him. Jeremiah 32:39, "I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their own good and the good of their children after them." He gives us shame, repentance, and forgiveness.
Others draw back. Christ was only a convenience. They do not find sin so bad or God so holy. Grace does not affect them. Ultimately, THEY DO NOT BELIEVE the gospel that keeps us.
Thirdly, the endurer "shall be saved!" This is ultimate salvation and deliverance. 1 Peter 1:9, "obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls." This is being saved from every danger and trial. There's no heaven on earth, but there's heaven in heaven. We enter the land of NO MORE TEMPTATION!
Bless God. We have something special coming, so much so that we have great hope! Death is not a loss! Philippians 1:21, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain."
Saints, take this gospel, and believe it. Believe God's hope and great reward. Believe his promises and his power. Believe in his compassion. He will not have us too tempted. 1 Corinthians 10:13, "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." He'll give grace for every need. He will receive our repentance. He knows that all the power is his.
Let overcoming drive you daily to Christ. Step by step, walk with him. This gospel is a persevering God who won't let go, and an enduring people because of it. Grace will prove sufficiency.
Finally, endurance is demanded and provided. All who believe have it!
