Luke 18:6-8, "And the Lord said, Hear what the unrighteous judge says. And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?" Persevering faith is the faith that saves. It's not temporary and disappointed. It endures hardship and waits patiently. It knows God. Abraham had this faith, and so do we. Hebrews 6:12, "so that you won’t become lazy but will be imitators of those who inherit the promises through faith and perseverance." We shall obtain the promises also. Sometimes, it takes years, but God's word is blessed. Spurgeon has more converts AFTER HIS DEATH than before. Year after year his church's prayers are answered, as God raises up new preachers and encourages many.
God's utterly faithful, so believe him. He can't disappoint, so keep going. Learn that unbelief has hindered you, like an Ishmael, but look to God again by faith.
First, "He will avenge them speedily." God is faithful, though it seems long. He's not bound by time tables, but he hears every prayer of faith. 1 John 5:14, "And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us." He cannot lie or disappoint. Satan may hinder, but the reward is coming [Dan 10:13]. If we need it immediately, then we'll have it. He never gives anything a day too late.
Put away the degrading thought that God is unfaithful. He cannot lie. Who can stop him? Would he make a promise, and fail to keep it? Is he intimidated or nervously forced into saying things he does not mean? Can he not see the future? Would he lie, knowing that he's lying!
Secondly, "The Son of Man comes." This must focus all of our prayer. His kingdom come, and his will be done, which is the salvation of sinners and the glory of his name.
We must not be about our kingdom, but his, if we want answered prayer [James 4:3]. We must ask according to his will, leaving everything else in his wise and loving hands. We must not turn prayer into carnality, seeking our own will while disregarding his. Let's pray for the glory of his name, obedience, and increased faith. Let's pray to honor him, and for the resources to do so. Let's live for his glory, and he will hear.
Thirdly, "Will he really find faith?" This is the pity of the last generation. They'll be caught up in unbelief. They'll look to man instead of God. They'll focus on the world, and doubt that God can save. They'll preach truth without the Spirit. They'll be devoid of prayer and full of self reliance.
Are we in these days? It's possible, but unbelief is our fault! The wickedness of our day is no excuse. We can't blame Hollywood for our own unbelief. It's not someone else's fault that the church lacks faith. What makes us say that God can't work? Why do we look to politicians for help?
Oh, children of God, let us be full of faith. Let us know that he's as mighty as ever. He's not hindered by modern man. LGBTQ has not tied his hands. Public schooling is no immovable rock. He's as mighty to save as ever. Revival waits because we doubt.
Let the gospel be preached BELIEVING THAT GOD WILL USE IT. Renounce self reliance. Let us build no earthly kingdoms, and work together as one. Let us look to Christ as a dog to his master, and he will feed us. Have no Plan B. God must work, and we are to expect it. Cry out if he disappoints, knowing that it's only a matter of time. Faith will not be disappointed. God will use our labors!
Finally, believe amidst this wicked generation. Don't let circumstances hinder faith!
