But He said to them, “Where is your faith?”
And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!”
Jesus makes us able to do anything he says! He has great power, and unbelief is out of the question. It has NOTHING TO DO WITH US - our ability or our worthiness; it only matters his promise and command!
Unbelief tells us that the storm is too much. It says God's power is limited, and Christ is small. It looks at the circumstance, instead of believing the Savior.
How can we defeat this great foe? Believe, in spite of unbelief. Believe a perfect God with imperfect faith!
First, "Where is your faith?" The problem is not the storm; it's unbelief. It's not an inability in God.
The disciples were in the storm, but so was Jesus. He called them to the "other side," and he knew that they'd get there [vs22]. He slept, because he trusted the Father.
Secondly, look at who Jesus is. “Who can this be?" He's the great God manifested in the flesh. He's the mediator between God and man, the One by whom we have acceptance. He's the One God raised from the dead. Look at his faithfulness in laying down his life. Is he untrustworthy?
Faith deals with Christ, not with self. It brings NOTHING BUT NEED, looks to God's faithfulness, and believes that faith is sufficient! Oh, how wonderful God is! Whoever believes has what he has promised.
Thirdly, the winds and waves obey him. He has all power. Obstacles mean nothing. Sin is defeated, and obedience is given. His Spirit subdues the flesh and gives joy unspeakable. He gives peace in the storm, and alleviates unneeded adversity. He's not limited by human weakness. Satan is no match for him. He's more faithful than the rising sun. If all difficulties united, he'd move them with his finger. He speaks, and they are scattered!
Psalms 34:4-5, "I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed."
Oh, trust him. Believe that he is able and willing. Take his promises for holiness. Look to him to fulfill his commands.
Finally, as we learn to trust Jesus, we'll experience peace. His power will not fail us!
