God is a marvelous and wonderful God who restores our soul. We taste the bitterness of unbelief, but we learn to trust Him!
First, we become weak as anyone else, when we lose consecration to Christ, which is faith. Vs16-17,
"It came about when she pressed him daily with her words and urged him, that his soul was annoyed to death. So he told her all that was in his heart and said to her, ‘A razor has never come on my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother’s womb. If I am shaved, then my strength will leave me and I will become weak as any other man.’”
Satan deceives us to rely on ourselves - our wisdom, our righteousness, or our strength - and then all is lost. The world is too strong for us, and so is the devil. We go beneath the blinding, binding, grinding power of sin. Judges 16:21, “And the Philistines seized him and gouged out his eyes and brought him down to Gaza and bound him with bronze shackles. And he became a grinder in the prison.” We see Christ intellectually, but not in His glory. We struggle in the flesh to overcome sin, and it is a miserable failure. Then, we must endure the years that the locusts have eaten, the guilt, and the shame. We waste our days, because we trust in ourselves.
Be warned, dear one. You have nothing in you. You cannot win, except by faith - relying on God to love you in spite of your sin, to help you in your weakness, and for God’s will of sincerely glorifying Christ to be your best life.
Secondly, bless God: After the fall, there is recovery. Vs22
"However, the hair of his head began to grow again after it was shaved off."
God is merciful [Micah 7:18-19]. It is good for us to be afflicted, so we look OUTSIDE of ourselves to Jesus Christ. Psalms 119:67, “Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word.” We learn the fear of the Lord the hard way, but we learn. Therefore, trust Him in your sinfulness as a merciful God. You have failed, but He has not: He keeps covenant forever. Micah 7:19, “He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities under foot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.”
Do not fear permanent rejection! The prodigal came home to a party. The thief on the cross was remembered, and John Mark was put back into the ministry! God will give another chance to glorify Him. He’ll restore your candlestick, and your First Love will return [Rev 2:5]. He has been greatly offended, but He already paid for your sins, if you come back to Him a poor and helpless sinner. You’ll see the Blood is enough, and the Spirit will dwell in you [Prov 1:23]. You’ll taste the goodness of God’s will, and the fear of the Lord will keep you near!
Thirdly, our last estate is better than our beginning. Vs29-30
"Samson grasped the two middle pillars on which the house rested, and braced himself against them, the one with his right hand and the other with his left. And Samson said, ‘Let me die with the Philistines!’ And he bent with all his might so that the house fell on the lords and all the people who were in it. So the dead whom he killed at his death were more than those whom he killed in his life."
Just like Samson slew more in the end, you and I have a better life now. We trust Him more and walk in sincerity. Before, our heads were big, but our love was small. Self-love ruled us, and we used Christ to serve ourselves. Philippians 1:15, “Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from good will.” Now, we are humbled to serve Him. We know His salvation, not as a speculative theory but by the deep experience of living waters and fulfilled souls [John 7:38]. We’ve tried everything else, only to find out it is vanity, so we stay near to heaven’s door asking for the Spirit. We won’t go without Him, because we know that we can’t. We’ve tasted fleshly service, and the real thing of God’s power is now addictive.
We know we can’t hide from Him, so we trust Him to overcome sin. We’ve tried our own righteousness, so we cleave onto the Blood. We don’t look any other direction but unto Christ Jesus, so we point many unto freedom.
We have lost opportunities and our consciences prick us! How could I have been so foolish? I was like a brute beast [Ps 73:22]! We have the joy of the Lord now, however. Our strength is continually marveling at God’s mercies. He’s a GOOD GOD, and He shows it by delivering us from the pit of destruction, where there is no water [Zech 9:11].
Oh, what a wonder it is to be redeemed. Now, man’s opinion means nothing. We have the favor of the Lord, the marvel of restoration, and the best life ever. God is this kind of God!
Finally, just like He restored Samson, He will restore you. You have not gone too far!
