Wednesday: 7:00 pm ------------------------------------ Never Man Spake Like This Man – John 7:46

“A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel” -- Proverbs 12:10

Someone once said that ‘when the Lord saves a fellow, even the old hound dog will know it.’ That man who has truly received mercy and grace from the Lord becomes a merciful and gracious man. Realizing how good the Lord has been to him, who before was no better than a beast, he in turn shows mercy and compassion to others. It is more than coincidence that, He who had ‘dove’s eyes’ had one land on His shoulder. And He tells us to be ‘harmless as doves.’ On the other hand, the wicked man who has shown little tenderness to man or beast, will, in the end, receive none from the Lord.

Psalm 23 -- by Henry Mahan, 1997

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want . . .

1. For REST - “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures.”

2. For PEACE - “He leadeth me beside still’waters.”

3. For FORGIVENESS - “He restoreth my soul.”

4. For HOLINESS’ - “He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.”

5. For FELLOWSHIP - “For Thou art with me.”

6. For COMFORT - “Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.”

7. For PROVISIONS - “Thou preparest a table before me

8. For ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD - “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.”

9. or IN THE WORLD TO COME - “And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

The Friend We Need -- David fled to his friend Jonathan and said, “What have I done? what is mine iniquity? and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeketh my life? (1 Samuel 20:1)

A true friend is a refuge. We all have troubles at some time. For many years we may get along quietly, and without sore trial; but the day will come to all of us—when we shall be in sorrow or danger. It may be in such an experience as David's, when people shall misjudge us, or become our enemies without cause, and may seek to harm us. It may be sickness that comes upon us, or bereavement, or severe loss of some kind. Whatever the trouble may be, a true friend will prove a great comfort to us in the experience.
It is a blessed thing to have one friend that we are sure of, though all others fail us. We can go to him then as David went to Jonathan, telling him all our heart's burden. Young people should seek to have a friend older than themselves, to whom they can fly in trouble or in danger, and in whose faithful love they can find a sure and safe refuge. There is a wonderful strength in the confidence that one has such a friend.
"There is a Friend that sticketh closer than a brother." Proverbs 18:24. Christ is the best, strongest, wisest, truest, most helpful friend anyone can have. His friendship is a refuge indeed. We can flee to him in any danger, and find him ready always to comfort, shelter, and bless. However many human friends we may have . . . Christ is the friend we need. – copied

The Bible is . . . the first book, the best book and the oldest book in all the world. It contains the choicest matter, gives the best instruction, and affords the greatest pleasure and satisfaction, that ever was revealed. It contains the best laws and profoundest mysteries that ever were penned. It brings the best of tidings, and affords the best of comfort, to the inquiring, and disconsolate. It exhibits life and immortality from everlasting, and shews Christ the Way to eternal glory. It is a brief recital of all that is passed, and a certain prediction of all that is to come. It settles all matters in debate, resolves all doubts and eases the mind and conscience of all their scruples. It reveals the only living and true God, and shews the way of Him: it sets aside all other gods, and describes the vanity of them, and of all that trust in them. In short, it is a book of law, to shew right and wrong; a book of wisdom, that condemns all folly, and makes the foolish wise; a book of Truth, that detects all lies, and confutes all errors; and a book of life, that gives life, and reveals Christ the Way from everlasting death. It is the most compendious book in all the world; the most ancient, authentic, and the most entertaining history, that ever was published.
-- William Huntington
