"We preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake." 2 Corinthians 4:5
We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old. How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out. For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them. Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob. Psalm 44:1-4
BELIEVING IS NO SMALL THING! To believe God is no small thing! It is the evidence of a heart reconciled unto God; it is the proof of our being weaned from our own works and deeds; it is a clear sign of the true conviction of sin; it is honoring to Christ, our only Redeemer; it is the essence of true worship; and it is the root of sincere obedience.
The person who believes God in spite of his sin and infirmities, who believes God in spite of fleshly wisdom and opposition, who believes God come what may, gives the Lord God more honor and glory than the cherubim and seraphim in their continual adoration.
DO YOU THINK FAITH A SMALL THING? How is it then that our Lord said, "He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life?" How is it that a whole nation perished in the wilderness because of UNBELIEF? How is it that we are said to be "justified by faith," and "He that believeth not shall be damned?" Faith is the parent grace. Whatever you put in second place, faith must have the first consideration; for it is not a small thing - - IT IS YOUR LIFE! "If you can believe, all things are possible to him that believeth." John Flavel said, "The soul is the life of the body. Faith is the life of the soul. Christ is the life of faith." Pastor Henry Mahan
HOW GOD SHOWS HIS PEOPLE WHO & WHAT THEY ARE
1. Paul's early years of ministry are summed up with these words: "For I am the LEAST of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle" (1 Corinthians 15:9).
2. Mid-way through his earthly ministry, the good apostle to the Gentiles declared: "Unto me who am LESS THAN THE LEAST of all saints" (Ephesians 3:8).
3. But notice what his testimony has become down near the end of his life:
"Christ Jesus came into the world to save SINNERS OF WHOM I AM CHIEF" (1 Timothy 1:15).
As you begin serving the Lord Christ, you think little of yourself. The longer you serve Him, the more vile you feel to be within self. As you come down to journey's end, after years of service in the work of the Lord, your opinion of Jesus Christ is very high, but in yourself you feel to be of all sinners the worst!
This is true growth in GRACE, for GRACE is the HUMBLING and SAVING attribute of God. Copied
Prevenient Grace "Bring my sons from far" (Isa. 43:6). - This is God's command in the execution of his providence. He says to all things, "Bring my sons from far" (Rom. 8:28-30); and creation obeys his command. Everything that happens in the mysterious movements of providence is under God's control and works by his sovereign power and purpose for the salvation of his people. Long before regenerating grace comes to the chosen, prevenient grace watches over them, orders their steps, and keeps them from going down to the pit, because God has found a ransom for them. This is beautifully illustrated in Hosea 2:6-8. Read Psalm 107 and see how that providence obeys God's command for the salvation of his elect. "Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!" Pastor Don Fortner
CHRIST SHALL NOT FAIL "He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law" (Isaiah 42:4).
To you who believe the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, this is one of the most precious promises in all scripture (2 Peter 1:4). The Lord Jesus Christ has been appointed by Almighty God and sent in the fullness of time (Gal.4:4) to accomplish all our salvation (John 17:4). The success of His work is guaranteed by the decree of God (Acts 2:23; Isa. 46:9-12). It is sad but true, every sinner has miserably failed to honor God and produce a righteousness that would satisfy Him, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Rom. 3:23). However, this gives us all the more reason to rejoice and trust our Great Saviour, Surety that cannot fail (Heb.7:25). Although He met with fierce opposition (John 19:15) and had great difficulties to overcome (Heb. 4:15), He always went about doing the will and work of God with perfection and without fail (John 4:34). This leads us to consider what work He did undertake as the Saviour and Surety of His covenant people, in which He did not fail? Think about these things!
1). He did not fail to fulfill every type, picture, prophecy and promise recorded in the Old Testament scriptures. "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me" (John 5:39; Luke 24: 25-27,44-46). What God promised in the covenant of grace our Lord Jesus Christ perfectly fulfilled (Rom.4:21).
2). He did not fail to honor, magnify, satisfy and exalt the holy law of God for His covenant people, (Isa. 42:21). "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil" (Matt. 5:17). He established a perfect righteousness for His people and sovereignly and freely imputes it unto them (Rom.4:4-8; Isa.61:10).
3). He did not fail to make complete and eternal atonement for the sin of His covenant people, "but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself" (Heb. 2:17; 9:26). The Good Shepherd gave His life as the sacrifice for the sin of His sheep (Matt. 1:21; Jn.10:15;1 Peter 3:18).
4). He shall not fail to justify, redeem, sanctify, call and glorify all His covenant people. "Whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified" (Rom. 8: 28-35).
