When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her also weeping, He was deeply moved in spirit and was troubled, and said, “Where have you laid him?” vs33-34
With compassion, our Lord Jesus raises the dead. He yearns that we'd see His power. He wants us to see the greatness of the living Christ, so that He can wipe away our tears. He doesn't want us bound by what death has done. He wants us to see His power, and the new life that He gives us. He wants our sins atoned and guilt replaced with joy. He wants thanksgiving [Col 2:7]. He doesn't want us mourning transgressions in unbelief, or refusing to believe the greatness of the gospel. He wants us walking in power and living in victory. He wants us possessing life and peace [Rom 8:6]. Oh, how wonderful to have an encouraging God, who wants us to have the full inheritance.
Therefore, fight against circumstances, and war against unbelief [1 Cor 16:13]. Have the fullness of what's yours in Christ. Be all that you can be.
Secondly, we must do what the Lord Jesus tells us. vs38-39
Then Jesus, deeply moved again, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. Jesus said, “Take away the stone.”
It may seem contrary to reason, but if we obey, then we’ll see the glory of God. John 11:40, “Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” If we BELIEVE THE GOSPEL, then we’ll taste joy and peace. If we resist temptation, then we’ll know conquering power. If we love people, then we’ll see how God comforts us and gives us peace [Matt 6:14]. In all things, we must obey first, and see later.
Take away the stone of unbelief. It hinders you. Take away the stone of selfishness and self-seeking. You’ll see more of the glory of usefulness, if you live for Christ, instead of self. Take away the stone of self-importance, and you’ll see the joy, peace, and power of saving others. Take away your will, and you’ll see excitement and comfort in God’s will. Take away your power and your righteousness, and you’ll see the sweet sufficiency of His! Take away all things of self, and live by faith in the Son. God will show Himself faithful. He won’t let us down, but we have to take away, so we can see.
Many are walking in unbelief, because you haven’t reached out by faith. You have not, because you ask not. You experience not, because you do not. You are so busy living for self and looking at self that you miss out on the glory of God!
Thirdly, we loose people and let them go! Vs44
When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out.” The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”
We are not to keep them in bondage. Ours is not a gospel of touch not, taste not [Col 2:16-23]. We are to liberate people by the gospel message of no condemnation and peace with God. They are never to go back into merit, but always abide in Christ's finished work. When we seek good works, we’re to tell them they died with Christ SO THEY CAN live a new life. Romans 6:4, "Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in a new way of life." We’re never to turn them to Christless sermons, exalt ourselves, or lay burdens on them. We call them to liberty and to love, which is the real freedom of the gospel. Galatians 5:13," For you were called to be free, brothers; only don’t use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love."
We call them to slavery to Christ and imitating His Person, which is freedom from our sins. We call them to obedience by the Spirit, which is the freedom of God working in us. We call them to grace upon grace, even strength by grace to endure hardship [2 Tim 2:1-3]. We always call them to the inheritance, so they can live the Christian life.
Finally, are you free? Have you tasted the freedom of new life? Has He called you from the dead? If so, then live this new life fully. If not, ask Him, seek Him, and trust Him to give it to you!
