“Because he who is blessed in the earth
Will be blessed by the God of truth;
And he who swears in the earth
Will swear by the God of truth;
Because the former troubles are forgotten,
And because they are hidden from My sight!" vs16
That's who blesses us: it is the God of truth, the God whose promises can be fully believed, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave His Son for our sins and delivered us from the wrath to come. This God is utterly faithful through thick and thin. His promises are spiritual, and He always keeps them. There's no lying in His words.
When He says that He gives living water, and we'll thirst no more, then we can FULLY BELIEVE Him, because He satisfies within. John 4:13-14, “Jesus answered and said to her, ‘Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” When He says godliness with contentment is great gain, and having food and raiment, we'll have enough, then you can believe that the world does not satisfy, but God does. When He says that He's put away our sins, will give us the Spirit, and we are sons, then we can lean our whole soul upon it. When He says godliness has the promise of the life that now is, then we know exactly what makes us happy [1 Tim 4:8].
Trust this God. Believe Him. He's the God of truth.
Secondly, God created us for gladness! vs17-18
“For behold, I create new heavens
and a new earth,
and the former things shall not be remembered
or come into mind.
But be glad and rejoice forever
in that which I create;
for behold, I create Jerusalem to be a joy,
and her people to be a gladness.
This is more than heart can wish. This is unfathomable grace and mercy. When the wicked are burning in hell, we'll be happy. When the righteous are rewarded, then we'll be among them. God will show His kindness by how He treats us, for Christ's sake, not because we've earned and deserved, but because of grace through the merits of Christ [Eph 2:7].
He created us for this purpose. He made us new creations! He gave us life from the dead, and ordained our redemption to glorify His grace. We are heirs of God, joint heirs with Jesus, and we are rich, so WE CAN BE HAPPY! This is why He made us. How sweet it is.
Thirdly, God's going to take away all pain, crying, and regret! vs19
“I will also rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in My people;
And there will no longer be heard in her
The voice of weeping and the sound of crying."
We'll stand before Him spotless with a perfect record. There'll be nothing but good works that we have done. There'll be no more anguish, sorrow, and temptation… no more war against sin. We'll be at our desired destination in Abraham's bosom. The wicked will be punished, and we'll never have another grief, so long as God lives. This is the glorious promise that He's given us, and He will fulfill it.
“They will not build and another inhabit,
They will not plant and another eat;
For as the lifetime of a tree, so will be the days of My people,
And My chosen ones will wear out the work of their hands."
We'll get what we've labored for and enter glorious rest [Rev 14:13]. We'll overcome by the blood, our testimony, and we'll receive the reward of our sufferings. God will prove that our labor has not been in vain!
This is the promise worth waiting for. Hold on and hold out.
