Who is This?

“Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? This that is glorious in His apparel, traveling in the greatness of his strength? " I that speaketh in righteousness, mighty to save." Isaiah 63:1

Who is this indeed! How surprised will many religionists be when they see the real Lord Jesus. He bears no resemblance to the Jesus often preached up in the gilded pulpits of modern religion. I see here no pitifully weak, wants-to-be, tries-to-be, wishes-you-would-let-him-be savior. Robed in splendor and glorious majesty, still strong after the battle, he eats up the earth with great strides. The crimson on His clothing is the blood of His enemies. He comes, and what terror rains down on those who oppose Him!

With the steely-eyed determination of love, He has slain all His enemies that He might save His Beloved. It is the day of vengeance and the year of redemption all in one. He comes. Unstoppable. Undefeated. Invincible.

He comes for you. Will His blood cover your sin, or will your blood stain His garments? Bow! . . . Now!

– Joseph Terrell

However men may wrestle and quibble with the Scriptures, one thing is certain: The atonement is no failure! God will not allow that precious and costly sacrifice to fail in accomplishing completely that which it was designed to effect. Not a drop of that Holy Blood was shed in vain. In the last great day there shall stand forth no disappointed and defeated Saviour, but One Who shall see the travail of His soul and shall be satisfied.” -- Arthur Pink

The Lord Alone Be Exalted

My friends, do you love to hear Christ lifted up and exalted as your all and in all? If you do you are willing to be made less than nothing and vanity in yourselves. Professors of religion, generally, do not like to be thus humbled. They love to have something to do, in whole or in part, to recommend themselves to God. But the Lord’s salvation is not a mixture of grace and works. It is of free and sovereign grace, and received by faith alone, which is the gift of God. It is “not of works, lest any man should boast.” The Lord alone be exalted as the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, the first and the last in the salvation of His people. – John Kershaw, 1848

In Our Latter Years

In our latter years . . . there is a keener sense of sin! Older believers are more aware of the NATURE of sin than the acts and deeds of sin. Attitude and spirit occupy the mind more than the acts and deeds.

In our latter years . . . our prayers begin to change. There is less asking and more thanksgiving . . . less petition and more praise. We do, however, ask things for our children, but our needs are different than theirs.

In our latter years . . . there is a clearer understanding of the FRAILTY OF LIFE. It is more difficult to think of death when we are young, but when this flesh begins to crumble and the keepers of the house tremble, the strong men bow themselves, we begin to think more and more of our house not made with hands. – Henry Mahan

Works, Dead or Good

Dead Works are those things men do and look to for the hope of their salvation. Good Works are those things believers do when they are looking to Christ alone for all the hope of their salvation. Dead Works are things men glory in. Good Works are never acknowledged by those who do them. Dead Works are performed out of obligation and for reward. Good Works are willing acts of service done out of love for Christ. Lord, purge our conscience of Dead Works to serve Thee, the true and living God. Heb. 9:14. Make us a peculiar people unto Thyself, zealous of Good Works, Titus 2:14 which Thou hast ordained that we should walk in. Eph. 2:10. – Greg Elmquist
