Christ’s House

“...Whose [Christ's] house are we, if we hold fast the confidence, and the rejoicing of the hope, firm unto the end.”

(Heb. 3:6)

So many today speak of going to a ‘place of worship’ as going to the LORD’s house. While it is true that there was a time when the tabernacle and later the temple were considered to be the LORD’s house, yet they were but types and pictures of Christ and His True House, the Spiritual church of His elect.

1.)Christ’s house are we: represents those who are the habitation of the LORD Jesus, by His Spirit. “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16)

2.) If we hold fast the confidence, and the rejoicing of the hope, firm unto the end: man’s will and decision are preached up as being the condition for entering into Christ’s church and persevering. Many even state that ‘if’ you don’t persevere then you can fall out of His Church. That is NOT the meaning of the ‘if’ here.

‘If’ is here used to distinguish and describe those who are Christ’s house from those who are not. Those who are His HOLD FAST the CONFIDENCE and HOPE in Christ firm unto the end because it is Christ Who has saved them and therefore keeps everyone who is a member of His house, by His grace alone. Out of the fullness of the LORD Jesus, they receive grace for grace, John 1:16. The reason those who are the LORD’s have the confidence of Christ, He being the Object of their Faith, is because they rejoice in HIM; their Hope. He is the One Who has brought them into His house, by His shed blood and is the Keeper of His house. “And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing but should raise it up again at the last day.” (John 6:39)
