It is rare to find a man of his word in this day. We must have lawyers and documents and Notary Publics to witness every transaction, and men still try to get out of their obligations. However, God is not like men. “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19) God has not changed. He is ever faithful to His word. God is to be taken at His word; He has magnified His word above His name. His word is forever settled in heaven. His word will not return unto Him void; it will accomplish the purpose for which He sent it. “Hath He said and shall He not do it?” Hath He said, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28). Shall He not do it? Hath He said, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” (John 6:37). Shall He not do it? Hath He said, “Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Shall He not do it? Or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good? Shall He not make every promise in Christ, good to His elect?
God is a God of His word; therefore trust Him for all you need. O what confidence this should give to sinners in need of mercy.
