Taking Dominion Through Wisdom - Day 89 Be Committed to Wisdom - Proverbs 4:21
When Solomon says - Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart - he is telling us to commit ourselves to wisdom. The Bible teaches us several ways we can commit ourselves to wisdom.
First, we commit them to writing. In Deuteronomy 6, we are exhorted to write the law of God (this is the wisdom of God) upon our doorposts, gates, hang them as frontlets between our eyes, and bind them to our hand. Don't underestimate the benefits of writing God's law. These are safeguards to prevent us from forgetting God's law.
Second, talking about the law and wisdom of God helps not only ourselves, but our children commit themselves to the wisdom of God. Note the exhortation of Deuteronomy - You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up (Deut. 6:7). Notice we can't teach what we don't know. Furthermore, we will never be committed to that we don't understand. One of the ways we commit ourselves to wisdom is by teaching our children.
If we are to commit ourselves to wisdom, then we need to frequently read and meditate upon the Word of God, keep the Word of God in front of us by writing them down (let them always be in sight), teach them to our children, and always let the principles of God act as a rule to steer our course of life.
Do you lay up wisdom as a treasure? Do you often meditate upon the wisdom of God? Do you keep the wisdom of God before you? If you can answer yes to these questions, then you are well on your way to committing to your heart. And as you commit wisdom to your heart, you will begin to realize the blessings of wisdom.
