“But now the Lord has spoken, saying, ‘Within three years, as the years of a hired man, the glory of Moab will be despised with all that great multitude, and the remnant will be very small and feeble.’”
A remnant shall be saved when judgment comes, and the remnant shall be small and feeble. This is how the Lord leaves us. He humbles us and brings us down. He allows no flesh to glory in His presence, and He takes away human strength. Instead of beauty, there is baldness. Instead of boasting, there is sorrow. Instead of human greatness, we see Jesus mighty to save.
This humbling is just. God reminds us that we are nothing. He does not save because we make one contribution but entirely by grace. Only the remnant shall be saved, and the oppressors' savageness shall be broken. The afflicted obtain mercy, and the poor are girded with strength. God’s ways are not like man. The way up is down.
Humility is the clothing of God’s elect, as He robes us in righteousness. We serve with godly fear, taking up our cross and following Him. We obey, because we are chastened! We are brought to submission.
Humble yourself and know that He will lift you up. He will exalt us with peace and power over sins. He will forgive our transgressions and make us live more gloriously. He will bring good out of evil.
If we are in Moab, then the ONLY HOPE is to be small and feeble!
