The Blessing of a Godly Home - Proverbs 4:3

Solomon shows us one of the sources of his wisdom. This passage emphasizes the importance of the home as a conduit for godly wisdom. Sitting from his throne, King Solomon looks back to the blessings that come from a godly father. There is no doubt that King David was a wise king and father. Solomon had access to this treasure trove of wisdom. King David would have taught Solomon how to worship, how live under God's wise law, and how to have a relationship with Jehovah. But Solomon also got to see how King David dealt with his sin, which is important when growing in wisdom. Consider the legacy left by King David. He taught his son wisdom, and now Solomon gets to pass down wisdom to his children.

Notice, though, Solomon is doubly blessed, because not only did he have a godly father, but Solomon mentions the love of his mother. Consider the home that is under God's design where you have a godly father and mother working together to train their children. At one time, this kind of home was just taken for granted. However, homes like the one described by Solomon are few. And the results of this neglect is manifested all around us.
