Reasons for God's Discipline - Proverbs 3:12

Today we want to look at another reason that God disciplines those He loves. Sometimes God brings adversity into our lives in order to bring us back to obedience. In Psalm 89, God tells David that if you sin, then I will discipline with the intent to correct your path. God often times disciplines us to remind us of the right way to go.

This not only benefits us as individuals, but those who know us will benefit from watching us repent and turn back to God. Put this principle in the context of a family. As parents, it is good for our children to see God's hand of chastisement in our lives. And it is really good for them to witness us responding in humility and turning to obedience. By turning in obedience, all excuse making is shut-down (and our children need to learn this principle). For example, if God exposes lying in your life, then our children should see us repent by always being truthful and forthright. This could be pressed into many corners, but we get the point.
