Have you ever herded chickens? Herded probably isn't even a word but it'll do. I am now the proud care taker of 2 more guinea hens. They came as tiny little balls of fluff - adorable. Well of course they'll grow up to be ugly and make loud obnoxious noises, but they eat ticks! Lots and lots of ticks. In fact they are the number one consumer of ticks with the oppossum coming in second. So when it sits on the porch roof outside of my bedroom window or sees its reflection in the screen door and decides to have a conversation ... we tolerate it. My chicken pullets are now grown and laying eggs. Spring brought with it 2 fox who decided to try and eat my chickens. It wouldn't have been so bad but the fox sauntered in my yard like they paid the mortgage. Sadly I lost 2 hens. Thus begins my story ... I knew the fox were coming and they even came around the same time of day like some kind feral coffee break. Frustrating! Buddy, one day came that my mom looked out the window and told me to look at my hens. That's all she had to say and I was out the door in my son's shoes, a stick, and my dog. Why do I put so much emotional attachment to these chickens!? Anyways, my house is surrounded by woods. My dog was on the move and I told him to keep moving. In the woods we went, briars - didn't care, I was out to get that fox. Down to the bottom of the hill we went. All of a sudden I heard a chicken squawk. The dog stops and barks beside a thicket. Here is where I had a "Moses Moment". You see I hear it squawk again and I raised my walking stick and yelled, "Let my chicken go". I'm sure if I did that in town I'd end up being put on medication but friend this was my chicken and I had no way to get to her.Guess what? Out she came running. I scooped her up and to the coop we went. I was able to get all the chickens back into their coops. My son came out from doing homeschooling to check out his crazy mother. I told him the story. I also told him it was the old hen who didn't lay any more. He questioned why I was so happy she didn't even lay eggs. In other words, she had no worth in his eyes. Ahhhh, my dear boy, she has life and that gave her worth to me I explained. Did I get scratched up, yep. Did she suddenly begin to lay eggs, nope. Maybe you're feeling like your life has lost its worth. Maybe you are suffering because of your sin or someone else's sin. Maybe you have failed and you question the worth of getting back up. Friend, can I remind you that as long as you have breath God has a purpose for you. I have hens that lay eggs every day but I still rejoiced for the rescued old hen. Why? Because I had invested in her and that investment caused me to put worth in her that maybe no one else could see. On 6/6/2021 we had a guest speaker Evangelist Richard Harper preach all day. "Lessons From Moses" and "The Shepherd" were 2 sermons that I believe if you would sit down and listen to them with your Bible and ask God to speak to you; He will. God sent His Son Jesus Christ to pay the penalty for your sin so that He could have fellowship with you. You have value!
