Our Heart's Attitude Says It All to God
The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant. (Psalm 25:14 ) The above verse reminds us that truly fearing the LORD (something rarely discussed or preached today), is at the heart of learning from Him. It is impossible to draw close to God without having a growing, profound, reverential awe (fear) of Him for who He is and for all of his character traits.
It starts and ends with fearing the LORD. In our audio sermon titled "Empty Words from Empty Hearts," we break down what is needed as told by the prophet Isaiah in order to draw close to God. The opposite of fearing the LORD is what most of Israel did since the inception of that nation and are still doing today.
But this also applies to Christians. Are we fearing the LORD. Does our fear of Him cause us to be on the inside what we project on the outside? Are we pretending to make ourselves look good? God sees our hearts (our mind and will). He knows every word we will speak long before we speak it. God knows the true attitude of our heart. He sees our fickleness, our rebellion, our hypocrisy and sin in general.
If we truly want to live for God in keeping with the commandments He has given us, it must be lived from the heart. Fearing the Lord provides the true motivation to do that. In the absence of that fear, we will simply be putting things on from the outside using our own self-effort to do so. In that case, God is not pleased and there is no growth within us.
