Solomon has been talking about the crooked paths the wicked choose to travel. These dark pathways lead to all kinds of destructive situations. In our verse today, Solomon highlights one particular pathway. He warns of the pathway that leads to the forbidden woman.
In addition to giving us a warning, Solomon provides a description of her tactics. She allures through her words. And only those young men, who have a habit of receiving and applying wisdom can withstand her. A young man who is not teachable and despises instructions, is destined to fall. Furthermore, the young man who is not selective with their companions will quickly find themselves on this destructive path - it is only a matter of time.
This is a wicked woman, who tempts young men to sin against their God. This makes her even more devious in the eyes of the Lord. It is one thing to sin, but to tempt others to sin is grievous in the eyes of Christ. Jesus warns us that if we tempt and cause a young one to sin, we may as well hang a millstone around our neck and jump into the sea. Once again, wisdom provides protection only if we heed her call.
