This is one of the most profound verses in the Bible. This verse gives us the proper perspective for life, and it points out the root cause of many of the problems we face within our lives. If we desire to be wise and grow in wisdom, then we must have a proper fear of the Lord. To fear the Lord means we respect and reverence Him. This means that when I receive instruction from God, I will submit to His instruction. This is why in one of the earlier post, I made note that wise people are teachable.
In this same passage we see the fool presented in opposition to the wise. The fool despises instruction. They refuse to hear instruction and many times they mock the instruction that comes from God.
When you examine your own life, which characterizes you? Do you possess a teachable spirit? Or do you exhibit an obstinate response to instruction. Ask God to expose your heart in this area. Ask God to grant you a teachable attitude and watch how you will start to grow in wisdom and begin to receive the blessings that are associated with wisdom.
