Prophecy: Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me. Psalm 41:9

Fulfillment:Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man; seize him.” And he came up to Jesus at once and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” And he kissed him. Jesus said to him, “Friend, do what you came to do.” Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and seized him. Matthew 26:48-50

Prophecy: “Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, against the man who stands next to me,” declares the LORD of hosts. “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; Zech 13:7

Fulfillment: But let the Scriptures be fulfilled.” And they all left him and fled. Mark 14:49-50

Prophecy: Then I said to them, “If it seems good to you, give me my wages; but if not, keep them.” And they weighed out as my wages thirty pieces of silver. Zech 11:12

Fulfillment: Then one of the twelve, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. Matt 26:14-15

Prophecy:He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, Isaiah 53:7a

Fulfillment:The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29

Prophecy: and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. Isa 53:7b

Fulfillment: But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he gave no answer. Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?” But he gave him no answer, not even to a single charge, so that the governor was greatly amazed. Matt 27:13-14

Prophecy: For dogs encompass me; a company of evildoers encircles me; they have pierced my hands and feet— I can count all my bones— they stare and gloat over me; they divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots. Psalm 22:16-18

Fulfillment: And they crucified him and divided his garments among them, casting lots for them, to decide what each should take. Mark 15:24

Prophecy: And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn. Zech 12:10

Fulfillment:But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water. John 19:34

Prophecy: He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken. Psalm 34:20

Fulfillment: But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. For these things took place that the Scripture might be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken.” John 19:33, 36

Again, these are just a few of the O.T. prophecies Christ fulfilled on the cross. If you have some time over the next couple of days read through these passages in context. Once you read how the prophets were divinely inspired to look ahead toward the cross, my hope is that you’ll see the events we remember and celebrate this weekend in a whole new light, understanding, and appreciation!
