”If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, 13his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 14If what he has built survives, he will receive a reward. 15If it is burned up, he will suffer loss. He himself will be saved, but only as if through the flames. 16Do you not know that you yourselves are God’s temple, and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? 17If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.”
Let every man take heed how he builds on Jesus Christ. If he has the true gospel, then build for God’s glory. If he builds any other doctrine, then he will perish forever!
First, no other foundation can be laid, so take heed how you build. Do not use the gospel to serve yourself. Don’t swerve aside to politics and morality, but keep on preaching Christ day in and day out, lest you squander your life (and your hearers lives) on useless things.
It is a shame to see a man who knows Christ not occupied with him. Sports, family, and making money sneak in. It is beyond tragic when those who know the gospel - who could have helped many - are drawn away to carnal side shows.
They will see at the Day of Judgment that they have been foolish, though God will wipe away every tear. They will marvel that they are saved, when they have served so little.
Secondly, those who build false doctrines damage the church and will pay forever. God has no pity on you, except you repent, because He will meet you in wrath. His fury against those who mistreat His bride - who lie to her and deceiver her - is beyond comprehension, but it is eternal, and there’s no escaping that prison.
I tremble for those who do not tremble!
I preached the gospel to a young prosperity preacher, showing him clearly in 1 Tim 6 that slaves obey their master: they were not promised freedom. Those who preach being godly as a means to get money are “depraved and destitute of the truth,” etc. His own mouth read the Scripture, “from such withdraw yourself.” We looked at the love of money, the true pursuit of godliness, and how the rich are to give. Then, we went to another text that exhorted us to poverty of spirit, weakness by confession, and trembling at God’s word, but I fear that he didn’t tremble.
The look on his face said, “I will continue, even though I am wrong,” like a crack fiend who knows he’s destroying himself, but cannot stop or repent. Sin is the ultimate slavery, and human beings are junkies.
Yet, what will God do? He’ll bring up every warning forever! This man will know God’s wrath in utter terror, because he refused to repent, if he refuses.
Thirdly, what are you living for? Are you the temple of God, then worship Him! Do not give your life to something else, but wholeheartedly pursue Him, and you will get stronger and do much good.
Don’t fear what people say about you. Who cares? God will be your comfort. He’ll surprise you with joy and peace when you are rejected.
Keep going in the SINCERE service of Christ, and you’ll have the highest life imaginable - joy that is pure, the empowering of the Spirit, and you’ll be shocked at who you are. Your growth is limitless.
Finally, we can obey God, and we must. Let’s not deceive ourselves by trying to deceive.
