Isaiah 35:10, “And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.” The Bible says, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” While we are in this world it is a long night but what comfort and joy will be the portion of the ransomed when the glory day shall dawn. Then "sorrow and sighing shall flee away" Then God shall “wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
I was struck by that word “flee away.” All the groans and pains shall take sudden flight. Just as an enemy that sees a mighty host advancing it quickly retreats and fast escapes and gets out of sight never to return again. It is the sudden swiftness with which these sighs depart that stands out. On earth sorrows do not quickly depart, they linger and when they do go it is only for a little moment, for they swiftly return. What a glorious day that shall be when all these things are gone—gone for ever! Isaiah 60:20, “Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.”
