(Genesis 1:1-2) “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”
Just as darkness was upon the earth so it is upon unregenerate man. Regeneration, like the work of creation, has its existence in God alone. The new creation, like the old, begins with the "Word of God" and the moving of the Spirit upon the heart of man. Re-generation is a prerequisite to Salvation. It is the gift of God that brings light and liberty! Regeneration frees the will from the shackles of darkness and the bondage of sin.
(2 Corinthians 4:6) “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
