Part of the problem that we face as humans is the short term perspective that we have on our lives. Even taking the "long-term" view of decades or centuries, or millennia is STILL a short term perspective when we consider eternity. It is this inability to wrap our minds around just how big eternity really is that keeps us in bondage to anxiety, fear and even sometimes envy when we see the wicked prosper. When evil, underhanded and just plain wrong things are done and no one is held accountable, or the actions themselves are even denied and no one is willing or able to get past the denial despite what is plain and evident, it fills us with despair, and it causes us to lose heart. But what God tells us is to consider the end, the true end. And to know that no one gets away with anything. That unless God moves and changes their hearts to repent and cry for mercy to Him they will face the bar of His eternal justice and NO ONE escapes that court without the full measure being paid. This means that we do not need to worry that someone got away with something here, for God sees, He remembers and there will be a reckoning. But it is also important for us to remember this truth with a gospel focus, for we should never delight in the thought that they will get what's coming… we should never be happy about that. Rather, it should spur us to reach out with the Gospel of Christ, to pray for mercy, to cry for revival and awakening, to seek the face of God that He would move on them with grace and call them to Himself - because the lamp of the wicked WILL BE PUT OUT. This should fill us with something far more than a simple ease that it won't be us… it should break our hearts with sorrow for them; and break our hearts in gratitude for the fact that so too were we, but God moved in mercy… Beloved, consider the end, and pray for the mercy that NONE of us deserved. For it is also true that if they would be saved and act in new ways from a new heart that the world would be fundamentally changed for the better!!
