I. BECAUSE OF IT'S PAGAN AND CATHOLIC ORIGIN In the 3rd century the Roman Catholic Church instituted a mass on Dec.25 for the celebration of the birth of Christ. The mass was to replace the pagan holiday of the celebration of the birth of Tammus, the son of Semeramis, the Babylonian queen of heaven, which took place after the winter solice.Rather than trying to stop the pagan orgy, the Catholic Church simply gave the pagan holiday Christian names,. so we have Christmas and Easter.
II.BECAUSE IT IS NOT THE BIRTH DATE OF CHRIST
Christ never has a birthdate. He is the eternal Son of God. The best evidence suggests that Christ was born of Mary in late August or early September.
III.BECAUSE IT VIOLATES THE SCRIPTURES
Not one verse of scripture teaches us to remember the Christ's birthdate, but we are to remember His death, burial and resurrection. We are to also remember His and the Apostles' teachings, I John 5:21 "Little children keep yourselves from idols."
Christmas observance violates the Ten Commandments
1.Ex.20:3-5 "Thou shalt have no other gods." Santa Claus is the god of Christmas
2.Ex.20:16 "Thou shalt not bear false witness." Santa Claus is coming
In John Calvin's Geneva, you could be fined or imprisoned for celebrating Christmas
In 1644, the English Parliament, at the request of the Westminster Assembly passed an act forbidding the observance of Christmas, calling it a heathen holiday.
The Puritans, in early New England, worked on Dec.25 and in 1660, the General Court of Massachusett decreed punishment for those who celebrated Christmas.
Charles Spurgeon, on Dec.24, 1871, said, "The Catholics and the high Church Episcopalians may have their Christmas one day in 365, but we have Christ gift the entire year."
IV. BECAUSE IT VIOLATES THE PRINCIPLE OF CHRISTIANS BEING SEPERATED FROM THE WORLD
Luke 16:15 "Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God."
Anything religous that the world promotes is usually un scriptural and an "abomination in the sight of God." Bible believers should seek to keep themselves from worldlines in every form.
