"Trusting in God's Perfect Way" Psalm 18:30&31 This Psalm is also found in II Samuel 22. A word of God with double representation in scripture that speaks to the battles of King David. (Specifically against Saul here.) Here we read "as for God.." instead of "as for me..." Things happen in our lives that we have no control over and we too need to hear these words! The ways of the Lord are ALWAYS perfect and His word will ALWAYS lead and guide us! They will always stand us in good stead when life seems to get "shaky."
The Contrast: The contrast is between God and ourselves. The Creator and the creature. God upholds ALL things as the Creator and Sustainer. God is the independent one and needs no one else. He is SOVERIGN! We are the creatures of God's hand (and very Word spoken actually) and are totally and completely dependent on God though we are made the very zenith of all of creation. We are caught in the realm of time and are always subject to it. Time has content though and God always works in time to accomplish His eternal will and good pleasure. And He does this in a way that does not go against our rational will which is His sovereign pleasure and will also. We live, move, breathe, and have our being in that eternal council of God! His eternal council partakes of the same virtues of God (eternal, unchangeable, immutable, etc.) We stand in the here and the now though. He gives us scripture in hand however and says to us "this is my will for you and how I want you to live!" God has all things laid out in His eternal council while you and I grapple with decisions we have to make as we commit to His word and in prayer.
The way: God's ways are always perfect and we live daily searching out His good pleasure in scripture daily. The word perfect means the end as it has been accomplished by its pre-design. God had all of history which is HIS STORY in mind "in the beginning." The way of history is guided to achieve His goal perfectly and unfolds His pleasure perfectly and to its end as we are living it here below! He knows how to bring His people though sin and grace into perfection. Christ was eternally in the design of God with the cross at the center of history. Adam did not mess things up and go contrary to God's council. God bends us, molds us, shapes us for heaven while not excusing our sin...but it is the perfect plan of God nevertheless. He sets Bibles in our hands and tells us "be ye holy even as I am holy!" It is perfect for life and doctrine! Note how the Psalms all talk about how precious the Word of God is! The Bible is tried and tested! e try and test things to make sure they will not fail mechanically so that we can trust them. Well the Word of God is tried and tested! When has the Word of God failed?
Comfort: When we digress from the Word of God we will experience chastening in His Fatherly love like Peter, Paul, and many others....but He is our rock and can trust Him as our shield and buckler! (Warfare terminology!) Here is a HUGE warning against compromise! We will be richly blessed and can depend on it! The way of God is ALWAYS perfect and His word is ALWAYS tested and perfect. The question is do we read and study it? We have to in order to KNOW IT!
The Word will safely lead if in its wisdom we confide!
