We Preach Christ and Him Crucified - 1 Corinthians 1:23

Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. Philippians 4:4

Wisdom from the Proverbs

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Proverbs 30:5

Christ came to give us a justifying righteousness, and He also came to make us holy—not chiefly for the purpose of evidencing here our possession of a justifying righteousness—but for the purpose of forming and fitting us for a blessed eternity.

Thomas Chalmers

Let us look upon a crucified Christ, as the remedy of all our miseries. His cross has procured a crown—and His passion has expiated our transgressions. His death has disarmed the law—and His blood has washed a believer's soul. His death is the destruction of our enemies, the spring of our happiness, and the eternal testimony of divine love!

Stephen Charnock

Shall Not We

Do not think the worse of Jesus for His manger or His cross. As He ceases not to be man in His highest estate, so He was God in His lowest.

His words were oracles. His works miracles. His life was a pattern. His death a sacrifice. His resurrection glorious. His ascension triumphant. His intercession prevailing. His coming again will be magnificent.

All the angels in heaven adore Him! All the devils in hell fear Him! All people must stand before Him!

Own Christ's person. Love His name. Embrace His doctrine. Obey His commands. Submit to His cross.

His person is lovely. His name is sweet. His doctrines are true. His commands are rational. His cross is honorable.

The very angels admire Him, and shall not we?

John Mason

Everything is necessary — Nothing is necessary

Everything is necessary, which God sends.

Nothing is necessary, which God withholds.

How happy are those . . . who can resign all to Him, who see His hand in every trying dispensation, and who believe that He chooses better for them — than they could possibly choose for themselves!

Faithful are the wounds of that Friend who was Himself wounded and slain for us, and who now reigns over all!

Christ is sovereign over all of our trials. He is the Supreme Disposer of all that concerns us, that He . . . numbers the very hairs of our heads, appoints every trial we meet with — in number, weight, and measure, and will allow nothing to befall us, but what shall contribute to our good.

The view of trials as a necessary medicine suited to our disease — powerfully reconciles us unto every cross.

What a comfort to be assured that our afflictions do not happen to us at random — but are all under the direction of infinite wisdom and love, and all engaged to work together for good to those who love the Lord!

"Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

John Newton
