"Bought for His glory!" Romans 6 & I Corinthians 6:20 The Apostle Paul points out various sins and writes an epistle to the congregations at Corinth. There is party strife and sexual immorality occurring. The text however goes way beyond the immediate problems here. Sin must not have rein in our mortal bodies any longer and we too are called to live a sanctified life as we live within the mortal body here below that should be pressed into HIS SERVICE!
The Price: "You were bought with a price!" says the Apostle Paul. Paul does not shy away from slavery (although it is not politically correct today) to powerfully illustrate. We were bought with a price! Notice we were not just bought, but with a PRICE! To be bought means to make something your very own. There is ownership by means of some sort of payment. (Read Lord's day 1.) We have been bought from the power and the slavery of sin and unto the glory of God Himself! Sin no longer have power over us! Sin is our FORMER master. We have been set free and that took a price says Paul that we may better evaluate that possession. He will have us impressed that the price is so very high that it is literally beyond our comprehension! The price of redemption! God gave His ONLY begotten Son...very God of God. That was the price! He forsook Him completely and Paul says UNDERSCORE that so that we may in our day to day living be conscientious of that very fact! We were set free from sin and even the guilt of sin and we will never ever be guilty before God! Just imagine and contemplate this very fact for a bit.... The emphasis is on sanctification to lead holy lives and know that the price has direct application in our daily lives. How can we be set free from sin, its power but still enjoy sinning??? We are not in bondage and may not yield our members or bodies. These are terms of slavery!
Ownership: Both your body and your spirit are GODS! The Holy Spirit lives within us and permeates the entire body and it is a tabernacle for the Spirit and we are called to live unto HIS GLORY! The moment I yield my members is the moment I am back into slavery instead of the FREEDOM in Christ! And...although we cannot reach perfection in the body we cannot use this for an excuse to sin. We have the power to suppress it into His service and that is our sanctified life! Living a holy life! If we understand that we have been bought with a price and a very steep price, then we will think twice of feasting the flesh!
Freedom: We are no longer in the grasp of sin and must walk in our body sanctified to the glory of God till we get to glory and will do it perfectly!
Take my life and let it be Consecrated, Lord, to Thee
Take my moments and my days Let them flow in ceaseless praise Take my hands and let them move A the impulse of Thy love
Take my feet and let them be Swift and beautiful for Thee
Take my voice and let me sing Always, only for my King
Take my lips and let them be Filled with messages from Thee
Take my silver and my gold Not a might would I withhold
Take my intellect and use Every power as You choose
Take my will and make it Thine It shall be no longer mine
Take my heart, it is Thine own It shall be Thy royal throne
Take my love, my Lord I pour At Your feet its treasure store
Take myself and I will be ever, only, all for Thee
