Yet I can say with full assurance that God is still in control, just as He has always been. 2020 was not a surprise to Him, this week was not a surprise to Him, and neither is next week or next year. How do we know this? Let’s turn to Scripture, which is chock-full of affirmation that our Lord is and will always be in charge!

“He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings;” Daniel 2:21

“Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.” Proverbs 19:21

“The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.” Proverbs 16:33

“Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,” Isaiah 46:9-10

“The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.” Psalm 29:10

No matter who wins this election, and the next one, it’s important that we don’t fret, complain, or gripe about it. Trust me, this is a very real struggle for yours truly, so please know I am writing this to myself more than anyone. But it’s true – Christians don’t need to worry about who sits on a temporary earthly throne because we serve the One Who sits on an eternal heavenly throne!

Instead of worrying, we should pray for our leaders. Ask the Lord to bring us godly, upstanding leaders and to grant them wisdom and discernment. When we are under evil leaders pray for their salvation and that they would turn their hearts to Christ.

While it is our civic duty and incredible privilege as Americans to cast a vote for our leaders, I’d like to leave you with a quote from one of my favorite Bible expositors, R.C. Sproul: The deciding ballot in every election is cast by God Himself.
