”We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowler;
the net is torn, and we have slipped away.” vs7
I have escaped from something recently, and I flap my wings like a bird loosed from a cage! I know that I could have gone under, and left to myself, even a little, I would certainly have sinned. The man who thought himself strong would have fallen.
When God brought me out, all I could say was, “Thank You,” and rejoice my soul. I claim no merit, no ability, and no usefulness. He could have let me fall and then cast me away, but He had mercy on me for His good purpose - to glorify His name and to save others… so that I might preach in humility.
We are blessed, brothers and sisters, if we are acquainted with our sinfulness and inability to keep ourselves. Then, we glorify God’s grace and refuse to be puffed up. We speak as having obtained mercy, rather than as experts who reprove David, Samson, and Lot, as if we have no trouble.
No, it is mercy; it pulled you out of the pit. It is grace; it gave you strength and victory. It is forgiveness; this is why your sin is not held against you.
We have obtained MERCY as God’s covenant people! Trace the goodness of His hand to electing love that will keep you till the finish.
