I was rushing to catch a flight. The more I try, the more obstacles come along the way. I continue to struggle but to no avail. I felt so helpless. Then I woke up, relieved it was only a bad dream.
I wish our situation today is just another bad dream. But it is not, it is actually our worst nightmare. Countless people feel a sense of helplessness, of utter inability to control what’s happening in their lives. Jobs and livelihoods are gutted in an instant, as businesses close shop. Travel plans have been shelved indefinitely. Our very lives are at risk as the unseen virus continues to spread. The most asked question is, when will this stop? The painful answer is no one knows.
Well, the previous statement is not totally accurate. There is One who knows, God Himself. While there is a universal sense of impotence, God is always in control. Jesus says that “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” (Matthew 28:18). Thus, there is “nothing outside his control” (Hebrews 2:8).
Such an ability to be in control of all things boggles our puny minds. We cannot even control a virus, the tiniest of creatures. Yet Jesus, as Lord of the universe, has everything under his beck and call. He commands, and immediately it happens.
Some may use this truth to argue that if God is in control, why does He not do something. Such a notion is pure arrogance. It assumes that we know better than God. It claims knowledge of what is best for us, considering the vast permutations of present and future events.
To the Christian, it is comforting that Jesus is in control. Having received HIs grace in their salvation, they can rest assured that He will order things for their good. They may not fully comprehend what is happening, but they know that not a single atom spins outside the control of their loving Savior. Praise Him!
