Our culture is very unconcerned with who someone chooses to worship. We are very "tolerant" of the rights of people to follow whatever god they desire (as long as it is not the God of the Bible). But the scripture is very plain that GOD is not so very disinterested. The Bible makes it clear that when we seek after other gods, we have no reason to believe that God is going to just look the other way. In fact, God tells us here that those who chase after other gods will be ignored by Him. He will disregard their prayers, not honor their sacrifices, not respect all their "good works" and more, they can expect trouble and sorrows to actually be multiplied!! This is because the Bible teaches us that every good thing flows from and finds its source in, the God of the Bible. He alone is God, and He alone is what we need. So when we chase after false gods, we are trusting in that which is not real, while ignoring and despising that which is... it is only common sense, and plain revelation of scripture as well, that God will allow us to feel the consequence of those idolatrous leanings... He has the absolute right to cut us off and refuse to hear us for all of eternity if He so chooses. But the good news of the gospel is this: Grace rules!! So, He might, if He desires, turn our hearts toward Himself in repentance. He might, if He pleases, make us love Him and live. He might, if HE chooses, make us His own... He alone can overcome our natural hatred toward Him, and so the answer to our deepest need is the grace of God, poured out over ruined sinners, sealing and perfecting them against a day of redemption. Dear child, run to Him and find hope in the midst of all your chaos and confusion!!! It is never about our good, or our righteousness, but rather always it is about His absolute righteousness, and about His overwhelming goodness, grace and mercy. Find in Him all you will ever need!!
