Lambs Among Wolves

Luke 10:3, “Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.”

Christians in the world are “as lambs among wolves.” It is not, or ought not be the other way around. Christians are not cruel and destructive. No saint wants to pull any one to pieces. The child of God ought to be gentle, peaceable, meek and patient; never abusive or manipulative. The saint is easy prey but not himself ravenous. The saint is persecuted but not a persecutor. We are always, as the Lord commands, to maintain dove like harmlessness even when we face people who do not spare and who have no pity.

Sheep of course in such a situation are weak and vulnerable. That is what the Lord is really telling us. He knows we are poor and needy and that in the day of adversity our strength is small. There is one warm comfort that more than makes up for all the discomfort of our present environment. It is that the Lord Jesus is our Shepherd Who was Himself a Lamb.

I have a Shepherd, One I love so well;

How He has blessed me tongue can never tell;

On the cross He suffered, shed His blood and died,

That I might ever in His love confide.

Following Jesus, ever day by day,

Nothing can harm me when He leads the way;

Darkness or sunshine, whate'er befall,

Jesus, the Shepherd, is my All in All.
