Here is a question we often get wrong... in practice at least. We say that Christ is the head of the church, but act as if we are. We consider that it's our church, that we get to decide what it will do, what it will be, who it will include, and how it will function... we forget all too easily that Christ has given us plain instructions on these matters in His Word. We ought never to begin a conversation about the church (or the Christian life for that matter) with the words "I think", "I feel", "i want" or any of a thousand other statements of that ilk. Rather, we are commanded to begin and end with what the Word of God says, what the Bible teaches us about the nature of this borrowed life... for this life IS borrowed, and one day will be demanded back with a full account to the Christ who is Lord and Judge of us all. The church is not permitted by scripture to change her stand on sin, to say that what God has plainly forbidden is now acceptable because we have forsaken the truth and allowed our fallen culture to dictate what the church should do and be. We are not permitted by scripture to take the pulse of the culture, the opinions of the lost and shape the church (of which Christ alone is the Head) into what that same God-hating culture desires it to be. This is the real reason that the culture has fallen so far into vileness and ruin; it is because the church, which is supposed to be salt and light (preservation, flavor and guide) has instead become the pale echo of the sin and filth of the fallen world, from which it desires to find its approval. Beloved, let us repent and turn toward our God. Let us seek His abundant mercy, and find both forgiveness and restoration. Then let us find in Him courage, strength and above all the guidance we need to stand for truth in the midst of the darkness!!
