“Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has devoured me;
he has crushed me.
He has set me aside like an empty vessel;
he has swallowed me like a monster;
he filled his belly with my delicacies
and vomited me out.
May the violence done to me
and to my flesh
be upon Babylon,”
says the dweller of Zion.
“May my blood be on the dwellers of Chaldea,”
says Jerusalem. vs34-35
Eye for an eye and tooth for tooth justice is coming. Those who have persecuted God’s people will pay. The slaughterers of the Huguenots in France, and all slayers of truth since Cain, shall pay for their wickedness!
First, God is not a Judge who forgets! There is so much injustice in the world that we forget that the Most High sees it.
“If you see the oppression of the poor and the denial of justice and righteousness in the province, do not be astonished at the matter; for one official is watched by a superior, and others higher still are over them.” [Eccl 5:8]
Man may be corrupt, but God’s judgment lingers not! It comes at the proper time, and those who’ve suffered shall be rewarded, when we wash our feet in the blood of the wicked.
The righteous will rejoice
when they see they are avenged;
they will wash their feet
in the blood of the wicked.
Then men will say,
“There is surely a reward for the righteous!
There is surely a God who judges the earth!” [Ps 58:10-11]
Vengeance is the Lord’s, and He will repay, so all who suffer for truth must be patient. It is coming, and you are not forgotten! Sing to your God and praise Him. Before His enemies, Jesus Christ COMFORTED HIMSELF in the Second Coming [Mark 14:62]. He told them they’d see Him again, and it would be too late. Rest and wait. Do good until the recompense.
Secondly, God gives us patience. We hear of the Judgment, and we get internal strength. We have surprising comfort now, as we rely on Him, make our cares known, and trust His promise. He doesn’t wait, but He helps us now until the reward is full.
It is time to look up in the midst of danger! Do not go about complaining, but take injustice to the throne of grace and GET YOUR PEACE.
Richard Sibbes, said, “I'm weary of brethren who constantly complain! They forget that we have been given more in Christ than we lost in Adam.”
Christ hears you, sees you, and He wouldn’t allow your pain, if it wasn’t best for the kingdom.
“In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” [1 Thess 5:18]
Take heart in God and take the promises seriously.
Thirdly, be warned you enemies of the gospel: Judgement is coming quickly and suddenly.
May the violence done to me
and to my flesh
be upon Babylon,”
says the dweller of Zion.
Laugh now, rage, and riot on... but you will cry later, when He comes to punish.
“In flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord & from the glory of His power,” [2 Thess 1:8-9]
You won’t be spared for taking His name in vain, so repent and do good works, or suffer wrath!
Do not think mocking the truth will be ignored. He doesn’t punish now, but He does punish forever.
Babylon was strong and abused God’s people, but her time came! Lay down your weapons of war. Take God’s patience as a sign to repent [Rom 2:4]. Do not assume upon His mercies or rush further into rebellion. Turn while you can. Heed the warning!
Finally, saints, we must wait until the Judgment Day, but it is coming. We have victory from Babylon now and victory forever!
