Text: Exodus 32: SITUATION: Moses was in Mount Sinai receiving the commandments/laws for the people of Israel, when the people decided that Moses had been gone (he was on Mount Sinai); but was gone too long. And so, they compelled Aaron to make them “gods”; an idol out gold that they could SEE, and bow down to and worship! The 10 Commandments had just been written in the tablets of stone by the hand of God, (the ink wasn’t even dry) and ALREADY they broken the 1st and 2nd Commandments! As a result of their sin, God was ready to annihilate them and wipe them off the face of the earth in His wrath; but Moses stepped in and stopped an angry God from destroying the children of Israel. This is an amazing passage in which we see the wrath of Almighty God kindled against his chosen people for their wickedness, he was ready destroy them; but then, “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much”! Moses stood before an angry God to stop Him in His wrath when He was ready to destroy the people of Israel. “Breach” here signifies a place in the wall of a city through which the enemy might rush in through and destroy its inhabitants. Moses stood in that breach caused by Israel’s sin and stopped God from rushing through it like an armed enemy to destroy them. This is not the only time Moses did this! What a picture of what Christ did for us? Who saved us from our sins and from the wrath of God which was against every one of us! Christ stood in that breach for us! Jesus saved you and I Christian from the wrath of God which was against every one of us! He made up that breach that was caused by our sins; He stood in the gap, took upon Himself the wrath of God which was against every one of us. Now, He continues to stand for us in the presence of God as our Advocate! He is our Constant Intercessor! Is there someone that you are standing in the gap for? Are you crying out in prayer for the soul of someone who is angering God; praying for those that you love that have made themselves enemies of God? Who have no idea that the wrath of God is against them? We ought to pray for our loved ones as Moses prayed; reminding God about His tender mercy and compassion; and reminding God that His Name will be glorified in the salvation of these sinners that you love! Plead with God for sinners like Moses did!
