He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.Psalm 25:9
When it comes to humility, I’ve mentioned this a time or two in daily devotionals over the years, but it is worth repeating: we often tend to turn humility into a work. We treat humbling ourselves in the sight of the Lord as a command requiring us to muster up humility from within ourselves. Today’s verse gives us the key to walking humbly with our God. First, we understand that the Lord Jesus was the most humble Man who walked upon the face of the earth (Phil 2:5-8). As God incarnate, He laid aside His glory as God and behaved in transparent honesty with who He was and what He came to do. He was God’s Servant who came to suffer and die for the sins of others. We, must likewise be honest with ourselves about who we are and our natural abilities— we are fallen sinners (Rom 3:23) who, apart from the grace of God in Christ, can do nothing (John 15:5). Next, having evaluated our condition honestly, we look to the only right One, the only just One, the Lord Jesus Christ. When we compare what is righteous in the way Jesus behaved, the way He surrendered to God, the way He loved the Father with every fiber of His being, the way He ministered unto others and nurtured His disciples for His kingdom’s advancement, and finally, the way He suffered and died for the Father’s glory and for the blessing of sinners’ salvation so we can also glorify the Father in Christ, we will be humbled to the dust. If the Spirit is ministering to our souls, we may even tremble, as I am now typing this, we see our weakness and wickedness in comparison with the Servant of servants, Lord of lords, and King of kings. Indeed. Lord Jesus, how great Thou art! Then we will be led and taught because resistance to God in Christ has been subdued.
God leads and teaches the right way To those who humble are; Humility’s eyes are on the Christ, Not on self, or on things afar.
